Product Description

TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller Benefits

The TriggerPoint GRID foam roller is for anybody who wants to move better. Use the GRID to roll through tight muscles, knots and kinks to reduce soreness and improve mobility. Studies show that using a foam roller can provide users with benefits such as decreased muscle and joint pain, increased circulation and flexibility, improved range-of-motion, better balance and improved gait. Regular use of TriggerPoint GRID foam rollers can be beneficial in preventing or recovering from injuries, maintaining and improving mobility and preparing the body for peak performance.

Durable and Functional Construction

Unlike traditional foam rollers, which can lose shape and functionality over time, TriggerPoint GRID rollers are designed to withstand repeated use while maintaining shape and integrity. The GRID is durable because it is constructed with dense EVA foam covering a rigid, hollow plastic core insert. GRID rollers feature a distinctive, 3-D surface made to replicate the feeling of a massage therapist’s hands – wide and flat like the palm, long and tubular like the fingers, and small and firm like the finger tips. The raised surface massages the muscles while the grooves allow oxygen and blood to continue to flow. Rolling on flat surfaces compresses tissue, blood, and oxygen together. Conversely, rolling on textured GRID rollers aerates the tissue so that blood and oxygen can flow freely and bring important nutrients that heal tissue.

I am a physical therapist and I first tried this product at a professional conference. My husband is a personal trainer and had used the traditional foam roller with client and himself for years until we got this one.
I like it because:
-- It is firmer than a basic white foam roller, allowing you to use more pressure and work out deep knots or tension better.
(Note: you can easily change the angle at which you use it to keep pressure light.)
-- It holds its shape. The basic foam rollers will dent in and break down with use, this product will retain its shape and thus will not need to be replaced.

After a successful home use trial, I also had two purchased for the clinic where I work. This is a solid product and I highly recommend it.

This is a great, sturdy, long-lasting, firm roller for serious users. The plastic core does give this a rigidity that nothing else compares to. However, I have since bought another foam roller (high density) that was less than HALF the cost and honestly is just as firm and is holding up just as well. I think as long as you avoid the non high-density rollers, the days of foam that breaks down over time is gone. Again, this is a great roller and it also LOOKS impressive (you know, rather than just having a tubular chunk of foam sitting in your room). That said, the whole "Grid" Trigger Point thing is a marketing scheme. The grid pattern on this roller does absolutely nothing. Maybe the nerves in my back are just dead, but I would have no idea that there were even notches if I hadn't seen before using it. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR THE NOTCHES.

If I had to start over and buy a roller from scratch, I would honestly just go for the cheaper high density rollers that are easily available here on amazon for a fraction of the price. If money is not an issue for you, go for this one because it of its aesthetic appeal over other foam rollers.

So I had some time this weekend to use my Hip + Lower Back kit and GRID Roller and here's my review.

A little bit of history on myself:

I've been an athlete my whole life -- basketball, football, wrestling, skateboarding, snowboarding, skimboarding, dancing, running and swimming.

I've also been a practitioner of yoga for over 10 years and actively practicing trigger point therapy and other massage techniques for almost 10 years now.

In Winter of 2003, I had a major snowboarding injury to my right hip that stretched up my entire spine from the whiplash. The immediate consequence was loss of function on my right leg for almost 2 months. The long-term residual consequence was the loss of function in my arms. This surfaced while I was attending Musician's Institute, playing my guitar for up to 10 hours-a-day. The doctors addressed the symptoms, not the cause... looking solely at my wrists and labeling it Tendonitis when in reality, the symptoms came from aggravated nerves in my neck from the whiplash.

I had a similar experience as Cassidy, finding short-term relief in all forms of specialists and treatments but nothing that lasted long-term and more importantly, nothing that empowered me to take control of my recovery in the big picture. Doctors were nudging me towards surgery and meds while also advising me to reduce arm usage. Like hell I'm going to listen to some stranger that thinks they know more about my own body than me, even if they are doctors! No offense to doctors, but I wasn't going to be a textbook case. No thanks!

So using my past experience in athletics and manual therapy, I continued to build towards a working knowledge of how the body functions in all aspects, using myself as the test subject.

I've used other foam rollers and this is by far the best. The traditional solid-foam rollers only last a short period before they become crushed and ineffective. The GRID provides a better and deeper massage due to its unique design of foam wrapped around a hard plastic core. I've had mine for over a year now; I use it almost every day and it has held up perfectly.

Holy crap is this thing awesome. I've had foam rollers before, eventually they all wear out in the middle and are kind of useless. I bought this to alleviate that problem. For the price of two average rollers the same size, you get something that will outlast ten or more. This has harder foam with different textures, and is wrapped around a thick, hollow PVC pipe. Pure genius! The matrix zones are nice and all, but they won't noticeably change anything for you. The company will give your their spiel about massaging properties of different zones, but it's unnecessary. If you've used a roller, you know why you need it, but I guess they have to justify it to themselves. Honestly, I have no idea why they aren't all made this way. I've been using these rollers for over a decade, but never owned one til recently and didn't know how easily they wore out. This is the first of this style I've ever seen. It's great for relieving pain in your back, or rolling out sore muscles. You can use it for massage (roll til it quits hurting) or incorporate it into your workout. I've turned most of my friends and each of my brothers on to this thing. If you're even halfway considering another foam roller, stop, call yourself a name that let's you know how silly you are, and buy this immediately.
