5.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough a "Must Own", June 27, 2010
This review is from: Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain: A Self-Treatment Workbook (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
I have purchased quite a few books on trigger points as I have suffered with shoulder and upper back pain for many years. I went to the so called experts in my city, some even had a roster of clients that included pro athletes. Please don't be fooled, they knew little about what they did. I eventually stumbled across Davies book and was quite impressed with the reviews it got. So I started my in depth education of trigger points.

TP Therapy for Low Back Pain is incredibly thorough. It gives you tests to see for yourself where your issues may be. It is an absolute gem. I was so impressed that I took a flight to Chicago to get treated by Sharon and her staff. What a refreshing change. They were highly knowledgeable and really cared about their work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book- worth it's weight in gold!, March 19, 2010

This review is from: Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain: A Self-Treatment Workbook (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
I am very impressed with how comprehensive this book is. It thoroughly explains myofascial trigger point therapy in a way that is easy to understand. Anyone suffering from pain can immediately use the techniques to start getting relief.
The book also helps teach how to stay out of pain including self care tips, ergonomic information, corrective stretching and exercises. There is also information on posture and nutrition and how it relates to myofascial pain.

As president of the National Association of Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists I highly recommend this book to both patients and practitioners who want to know more about treating low back pain. It is both simple for the general public and detailed and filled with "clinical pearls" for the seasoned therapist.

Had I not been a patient of Sharon Sauer several years ago, I might have overlooked this wonderful book. As a massage therapist, I have not only experienced (and survived) myofascial pain, but have worked to eliminate it in thousands of patients and clients. My practice has been deeply enriched and empowered by what I learned from Sharon Sauer.

However, this book opens up new horizons both for the public and for bodywork practitioners. "Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain" clearly demonstrates Sharon's mastery in this complex healing art and in the art of teaching it. It sets forth the trigger point protocols in such a clear fashion that I have been inspired to renew and deepen my studies in this field.

Thanks, Sharon and Mary for giving us the gift of your amazing work. Myofascial trigger point therapy brings us holistic awareness and powerful tools to take care of our amazingly complex and resilient bodies. In an age when medicine is all but dehumanized (and touch-free), physical therapy is often routinized and restricted to defined muscle groups and consumers prefer symptomatic treatment with pills rather than addressing our real health and wellness issues, this book brings continuity and hope that the breakthroughs of Travell and Simons will not be lost on our high-tech, low-touch and short-sighted culture.

This review is from: Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain: A Self-Treatment Workbook (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
This is one of most recent books about trigger points and trigger point therapy and it's totally worth it. Based on the famous books of Dr Jane Travell and Dr David Simons, this book try to go a step further at the same time of being more easy to understand. Comprehensive and easy to read, this book it's a must if you suffer from back pain or if you are a bodyworker and want to know more about back pain.

As a former client, I am so excited to finally be able to take Mary's and Sharon's knowledge with me wherever I go. Trigger Point Therapy works, and there's no one that I know of that are more knowledgable on the subject than Mary and Sharon. Buy this book. You won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Sauer gave me my life back! I am so grateful!!!!!!, June 22, 2011

I am so pleased to find Sharon Sauer finally had the time to write her book. I was blessed to have had her as my personal Trigger Point Therapist back in 1999. I was in excruciating pain and ready to retire early and lose my pension, when I met Sharon. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at her Clinic...and it took Sharon many different adjustments to clear my body of the FM KNOTS that were preventing me from even walking without pain. I had Siatica for 3 years before I met Sharon. She showed me how to cure it. I had a bone spur on top of my foot, and when I mentioned it to her...she showed me the muscles in ivolved and in 3 days I was healed. Sharon is a wonderful teacher and loves people. She is now mainly instructing M.D.s, nurses and massage therapists. Also, Ms. Sauer learned from the SOURCE. The school where President Kennedy's doctor taught this method first!. Sharon was in the second wave of students. She is in high demand and is overseas now, teaching doctors. I would buy ANY book she wrote. Also, she let us Video Tape the stretches she taught us! No one else in 1999 even thought of that. Ms. Sauer's GOAL, was to teach US to GET and STAY well. Her sincerity, and excellence in teaching manner will always remain with me. I thank her from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to finish my carreer and retire with full benefits. You name it, I had a HUGE pain there. I could barely walk after 11 a.m., and every part of my body was sore. Now, I have a bit of fatigue, but it is rare when I get an area of pain. If I do, I apply what Sharon taught me! Trigger Point is drug free, and the wave of the future! 85% of our pain is muscular. The more you learn about this, the younger you will feel, walk and look. When I see elderly people hunched over...I know most of them could have remained "young", had they had access to Trigger Point Therapy. It is NOT Massage Therapy! If you are a Massage Therapist, take some classes fom Sharon and you will be able to help your patients in a faster permanent way! Thank you Sharon, you are my hero! Carole C.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Biancalana is truly Phenomenal!, July 11, 2009
This review is from: Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain: A Self-Treatment Workbook (New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Ohio. I just took my 12 yr old daughter to Chicago to have Mary work with her after finding her through the internet. Mary Biancalana's work is truly excellent. We found her to be genuinely caring, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable about Trigger Point Therapy, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. She immediately put my daughter (and us) at ease and she helped my daughter get relief immediately. I also have long-term problems with my neck and am hesitant to let anyone work on it. After watching Mary work with my daughter, I asked and she kindly agreed to work with me. She was able to help me re-gain more mobility than I have had in my neck for 8 months- in 40 minutes.
This woman truly is gifted and I am eager to read her book and learn from her. Check out her website at: [...] . We can all learn ALOT from this woman.
Thank you, Mary!

just started using it, be aware that many of the techniques require that you use specific products, some of which are specialized and need to be purchased. I have only been doing the ones which require a ball, using both a tennis ball and a small basket ball, for the paraspinals.
Also, you need someone to help you with many of the activities.
Overall, decently illustrated diagrams of triggerpoints, and descriptions of their relevance to one another.
