5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Trigonometry easy, September 11, 2009
By
Casey Martinson (California City, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Trigonometry (Hardcover)
Before attending my Trigonometry class (I go to a community college), I was handed down the precept that said most of the time the books the college/university has you order are pure rubbish to learn from. Well, I don't go to a fancy school or anything, but I think they hit it right on the nail asking us to get this one. You won't need any supplementary material really, everything you need to know about Trig is very likely found in this book.

I'd recommend this also to self-taught math students. I find everything inside it very easy to read, understand, and am able retain most, if not all, of what I've read from it. It's the connection between the author and the reader I find the most important when reading textbooks ever since I was in grade school. You can identify when a textbook sucks just by reading and doing the first chapter pretty much. I do believe though I could tell you that these authors have done a good job serving you what you need to know in order to prepare for other classes such as pre-calculus, calculus, physics, or any other math-oriented courses you might need to take.

It's got the look, it's got the goods, and I'm hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy To Follow, January 19, 2009
This review is from: Trigonometry (Hardcover)
Nothing left to the imagination. Trigonometry, by C. P. McKeague and M. D. Turner is very well organized and written. The examples in the book have figures that involve everyday apparatus or structures such as bicycles, swings, buildings and ski trams. This approach allows one to easily recognize the initial facts or information, and then visualize the subsequent trigonometric relationships described in the problem. Consequently, the statements or transparency of the questions become evident and the student can then explore the possible solutions to the problem.

The later sections of the book give excellent examples and explanations of trigonometric functions that will definitely be encountered if a student goes into physics or engineering. A motivated person could self-teach trigonometry using this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars i got 115% in my class and only read up to ch 5 i showed up mostly for exams and quizes, February 10, 2010
This review is from: Trigonometry (Hardcover)
i think this book overall is good. it has some confusing examples. but look i think i studied my teacher more than this book. i only showed up for quizes and exams and did not have this class in highschool. the absolute best part of the entire book is the inside covers, all 4 pages. copy and shrink them down, make you a chart of the 6 functions for each of the most common radian and degrees used on the unit circle and that is all you will need for notes period. the entire book is reduced to fit on 2 pieces of paper. you will also need those notes if you are going on to take precalculus. its alot of trig and alg 2. i only read up to chapter 5 and did the preview exams my teacher gave us and i got the highest grade in my class 115% i also bought the solution manual because it will break down the problems farther than the book does.
