Book Description

October 1, 2007
Arizona, 1910

Dear Diary,

It will take more than threats—and one overbearing rancher— to drive me away from my rightful property.—When I inherited this isolated land near the Mexican border, I knew running it would be difficult and dangerous—very different from my privileged life in Louisiana, where I was the genteel Miss Trilby Lang. But I certainly didn't expect that my neighbor, Thorn Vance, would be challenging me at every turn. Or that his brusque, ruggedly appealing ways would prove a dangerous temptation that I'm finding harder and harder to resist. Now, with trouble sweeping the territory, I need his help. But how much will I risk putting myself in the hands of a man who's used to getting exactly what he wants?

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Love blossoms in the desert in Palmer's uneven romance set in the Arizona territory in 1910. Trilby Lang left her heart in Louisiana with Richard Bates when her family came west to claim an inherited ranch. Malicious gossip dupes neighboring rancher Thornton Vance into thinking Trilby's morals are a mite loose; but when he makes an ungentlemanly move, the indignant miss promptly sets him straight. Now contrite, Thorn has a tough time convincing her that he no longer wants to insult her--just shove his hand in her bodice. The trajectory from there to Thorn and Trilby's marriage, unhindered by a visit from Richard, is so standard that even Palmer ( Lacy ) sounds bored narrating it. She does create a marvelous secondary romance between two misfits--Naki, a highly cultivated Apache, and Alexandra Bates, Richard's college-educated sister. But another minor romance, between an unhappy wife and a widowed army surgeon, is completely irrelevant to the main tale. Nor does marginal information on the Mexican revolution rumbling just across the Arizona border add dramatic interest here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love found in Arizona, April 6, 2003
This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
Trilby Lang and her family has moved from Louisiana to Arizona to live at Blackwater Springs Rach that her father has inherited. Trilby longs to return to Louisiana and her "beau" Richard until she is pulled into the arms of Thorn Vance.

Thorn's ranch has no water and he is losing some cattle due to the drought. He plans to seduce and marry Trilby to earn rights to her ranch's abundant water supply.Thorn is a hard man that does not trust the female race due to the treatment from his late wife, Sally. He vows to not "fall" again. Can Trilby win him over and make him believe her love is lasting and true? I believe she can!

Although this is not may favorite book that she has written, I still enjoyed it and I would also recommend reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars problem with review, June 26, 2001

This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
Hi: I have never read Trilby but I have read Amelia by Diana Palmer. And unless she wrote two books with exactly the same plot, I think the reviewer (from juno.com) is talking about the wrong book. Amelia is the story of a man (King) who seduced the girl so she wouldn't marry his brother. But she was beaten half to death by her father and the hero felt guilty enough the marry the girl himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of the right book!, May 8, 2005

This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
This book should not be penalized because the first reviewer didn't get the right story! "Trilby" is a terrific story, with a strong heroine, engaging secondary characters and fascinating history. I devoured it in a weekend because I wanted to know if everyone got their happy endings, and I was not disappointed. Palmer is an amazing talent, able to write contempory romance *and* historicals with the same spice and drama. This one is a keeper for sure.
