Love found in Arizona,
By angela jones (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
Trilby Lang and her family has moved from Louisiana to Arizona to live at Blackwater Springs Rach that her father has inherited. Trilby longs to return to Louisiana and her "beau" Richard until she is pulled into the arms of Thorn Vance.Thorn's ranch has no water and he is losing some cattle due to the drought. He plans to seduce and marry Trilby to earn rights to her ranch's abundant water supply.Thorn is a hard man that does not trust the female race due to the treatment from his late wife, Sally. He vows to not "fall" again. Can Trilby win him over and make him believe her love is lasting and true? I believe she can! Although this is not may favorite book that she has written, I still enjoyed it and I would also recommend reading it.

problem with review,

Hi: I have never read Trilby but I have read Amelia by Diana Palmer. And unless she wrote two books with exactly the same plot, I think the reviewer (from juno.com) is talking about the wrong book. Amelia is the story of a man (King) who seduced the girl so she wouldn't marry his brother. But she was beaten half to death by her father and the hero felt guilty enough the marry the girl himself.

Review of the right book!,
By Book Mom (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
This book should not be penalized because the first reviewer didn't get the right story! "Trilby" is a terrific story, with a strong heroine, engaging secondary characters and fascinating history. I devoured it in a weekend because I wanted to know if everyone got their happy endings, and I was not disappointed. Palmer is an amazing talent, able to write contempory romance *and* historicals with the same spice and drama. This one is a keeper for sure.

Too many characters!,

This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
The story was nice. It had a lot of history in it, so you also get an education on the war of 1910. Thorn is a good, strong character. Betrayed by his wife, its easy to know why he doesnt have a lot of trust in women. Trilby is a very weak character at the beginning but starts to flourish a little in the middle and end. However, there are so many characters in this book that sometimes you forget you are reading about Trilby and Thorn. Theres Naki, Sissy, Ben, Richard, Julie, Lisa, Selina, Powell, Jack, etc. the list goes on. Overall a good love story, i liked it, but i would have liked it even better if Diana would have stuck with the war education and Trilby/Thorn instead of looking like a 5 in 1 book.

Interesting but distracting,
This review is from: Trilby (Mass Market Paperback)
Overall I liked the book, though I was left a little disappointed. The story line was good and the characters were strong. There were appropriate twists and turns along the way to keep things interesting. However, thrown right into the middle of the book were Lisa and Powell. I never discovered how they were connected in any way other than geographically to the main characters or plot. I was confused about what they had to do with anything from their very introduction and was disappointed when a connection had still failed to be made by the end. Also, the further along I got into the book, the more distracted I became. Was I the only who noticed the repeated use of the same adverbs? Palmer overused "said huskily" enough for both the men and women alike to make me focus on how they said it more than what they actually said. In some cases she used it twice on the same page. Really, how often do women say anything "huskily?" And that was just one example. Really, I'm not that knit-picky. I've never noticed this before in any other book I've read, but it was prevalent enough in this book that I found it harder and harder to take the author seriously. I think a thesaurus might be a good investment in the future. So once again, it was overall a good story, but I sure wouldn't expect it to ever be labeled a classic. I'm glad to read in some of the reviews that this wasn't one of Palmer's best, because if it was I don't think I'd bother reading any more of hers. Perhaps I'll give her another shot. If her other books are as interesting without the rabbit trails or distracting overuse of adverbs, they just might be pretty good.

Good story, bad editing,
By Bookworm (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trilby (Paperback)
I gave this review a 2 because there are 3 blatant errors in the writing. I devour books like this in a day or two, and this one was no exception. I've never read a Diana Palmer book before, but I definitely had high hopes. Unfortunately, I have a pet peeve about spelling errors or grammatical mistakes in books. I understand that author's make mistakes, but that's what editors are for, right? The story of Trilby and Thorn was beautiful. They were in love, but both thought the other was still in love with someone else. The intertwining story of Sissy and her "savage" indian left me ready to find the book with that story. I may try out another Diana Palmer book - the writing was good, so maybe this was just a bad editing job.

An enthralling tale with detailed history.,

This review is from: Trilby (Paperback)
I just finished reading this exciting tale. The detailed history of the events of the time is what make this a fascinating and enthralling adventure. Not only do we read the story of Trilby and how she finds her ultimate love through trials and tribulations but we learn about the Mexican revolution and the plight of the people during this time.I have read several of Ms. Palmer's books and always find myself desperate to read the entire book unable to put it down. History is a fascination of mine and to be able to combine my love of romance with such detailed history makes this and other stories written by this author a true delight.

I thought this book was well worth the purchase. It was one of those books you start and have to keep reading until the happy ending.

I had a hard time getting through this book because of all the characters and the sub-plots. I was so bored with Trilby's brother and his love interest I skipped through allot of the book. I never do that with a Diana Palmer book!I must say I was disappointed in the writing also, just not her best. Don't recommend. Gave it three stars because it was Diana Palmer.

a great disappointment,
By
This review is from: Trilby (Paperback)
I am a huge Diana Palmer fan, and have read everything she has ever written. I usually lover her books and there is usually no question the book is going to be well written , have a great story line and good flow. This book was definately the exception. While reading the book I kept waiting for the story line to get interesting but it just never happen. I took me a very long time to get through this book and when I finally did I felt like I had just wasted my time and money. I even went so far as to return the book because it was so bad. I was sadly disappointed. So anyone reading this review I'm not knocking Diana Palmer's books just this one. Any other book written by Mrs. Palmer is well worth the money spent on it just not "Trilby"
