She's the Queen of Moscow,

Jewlia Eisenberg shares more of her wonderful talent, creativity and compositional skills with this new selection. Mostly based on the writings of Walter Benjamin, Asja Lacis and Gershom Scholem in revolutionary Moscow, she and her 'Charming Hostess' female vocalists fill these acapella pieces with multi-layered vocal harmonics, stop-start beats, percussive 'bass' vocal rhythms, and meeeooow-like vocal 'guitar licks'. Highlights are the sexuality assertive 'Dream of Me,' and the breathless stillness of lovers in 'The Touch of Her Hands'. Jewlia!, heartthrob of nerdy post-modern Yiddish lovers everywhere! Highly reccommended.

Not for the faint of heart of those who shun deixis in their music. Eisenberg riffs on the Lacis/Benjamin love, and adds some of her pithy poetry and homage to Sephardic melody. The a cappella arrangements and accompaniment are perfect, and how can anyone not love these imagined Lacis lyrics: "I want a brand new dress. When I'm with you, I am 9 feet long and I'm made of fur, I'm covered with pearls. And I'm sweating." A brilliant album, and even for the indexicality-impaired, the music stands on its own. Horkheimer, tap your patent leather shoes. Dadaists, take the front row. No pain in this exercise.
