TB ROM I. STAR OF SORROW,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Trinity Blood - Reborn on the Mars Volume 1: The Star of Sorrow (Trinity Blood Novels) (v. 1) (Paperback)
TB ROM I.- Star of Sorrow -- is the story of the resistance movement against the rule Gyula Kadar, Marquis of Hungary (Anime episodes 3-4) The anime did a marvelous job of condensing this story into two episodes. The original novel is a darker, more complicated story. After dealing with a pair of troublesome vampires in a small town, Father Abel Nightroad proceeds to Istavan, where he runs into Sister Esther Blanchett, who is dressed as a boy. Esther is the leader of the resistance movement. Dietrich is one of her aides. He is nicknamed the Puppetmaster. How he got this nickname and how his power works is revealed in this book. The end of the novel follows the manga and anime, the end still contains several surprises. In the long run, this book is well worth reading. The anime version is just the bare bones version.

Watched Anime, following up with Books...,

This review is from: Trinity Blood - Reborn on the Mars Volume 1: The Star of Sorrow (Trinity Blood Novels) (v. 1) (Paperback)
I originally watched (and then purchased) the anime version of "Trinity Blood". I loved the artwork and the story was engrossing enough that when I got to the end of the animated version, I decided to read the "source" material to finish out the story. The books so far are basically 1 chapter = 1 anime episode. However, the books go into much more technical detail about what was visualized in the anime. In the anime what is shown as "special effects" is really described in the novels, so reading them also brings new meaning to the anime as well. Overall, the stories told were very faithfully reproducted in the anime, and so there isn't much "new" material revealed here, everything is just more nuanced.

If you truly enjoy Trinity i would read the light novels over the manga. The novels have more specific details as it is the source of the manga. You learn interesting minor details about some characters. As for me i love minor details the most so it is a great buy.

Great history, but a awkward way of writing.,

The story of Trinity Blood is deep and interesting, combining elements of medieval times with modern technology. The books (all 12 of them) are definitely worth reading for their plot.
I'm not giving it five stars because the text itself is not perfect. The author repeats many descriptive scenes and it looks even funny when you notice them and starts waiting for the next time they will occur. Also, the Japanese left many marks in the English version for being the original language of the book. Many sentences are too short and sometimes it feels like the story has been torn to small pieces and those are being tossed at you. I don't blame the translator for that, as it is not easy (and sometimes not even possible) to detect which are language characteristics (and change them) and which are characteristics of the author's style (and those should be kept). But still, the text feels weird sometimes, and I'm taking one star for that. |
