The struggle that is Ireland's history, January 21, 2012
This review is from: Trinity (Paperback)
Briefly, I'll add my 2 cents to the host of reviews for this famous, important work of historical fiction.
As he did for The State of Israel in "Exodus" ---- in "Trinity", Uris takes us back about 150 years, establishes a host of fictional characters and the environment they live in . . . and then tells the story and the struggles of Ireland in a sweeping epic fashion.
I'll not go into detail. I'm not Irish nor an Irish studies scholar so I can't vouch for level of historical accuracy. The novel is a lengthy and intricate work, well executed and seemingly well researched. Generally highly entertaining, with a few tedious but rather necessary interludes used to tell some historical fact.
I'm glad I took the time. After reading "Trinity", one will never again think of or consider Ireland in the same way, and will likely grow to "love" Ireland at least a wee bit.
