US born jazz pianist Bill Evans' impressionist style became the blueprint for jazz musicians to follow, and his work has been cited as an influence on Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and many more. His classic "Peace Piece" is suggestive of new age pianists such as George Winston.

I don't know what album the reviewer who preceded me was listening to, but this is extraordinary trio work. With Peacock's only recorded appearance with the Bill Evans Trio. There is a wonderful, churning quality to Peacock's support here, and Motian is brilliant. Evans' nuanced touch is everywhere in evidence. Delicate. Fragile. Beautiful. But there are also tracks that swing. Lots of gentle, lilting beauty here. A must.

The music created by the trio on this record has a wonderful lilt and lift to it. The opening track, the bouncy "Little Lulu", exemplifies this spirit. The whole album has a loose, "off-the-cuff" feel to it. Even Paul Motian's drumming has a little "kick" to it. Gary Peacock's playing is quite active all over the fingerboard, and certainly evokes the spirit of the dearly departed Scotty Lafaro. It works almost as effectively as the exciting interplay Bill had with LaFaro. Too bad this particular trio only recorded one album. Don't miss out on this overlooked gem.

The highlight of this CD is "Little Lulu". Original edition contained only one take of it, but the reissue added several alternative takes.

unquestionably this title is one of the best of bill evans' verve years. this trio was the most successful one in evans' entire career. basist is awesome.
