5.0 out of 5 stars So expressive..., October 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Trio Sonatas: Wings of the Morning (Audio CD)
Well, the music is extraordinary (if you like Bach and you don't know these pieces, then you'll be stunned by them), the performances are excellent, and the recorded sound is great. Rampal recorded these years ago, but that recording is out of print (and besides, he sort of rushed thru them, anyway). These pieces are adapted often, and for many different combinations of instruments: The Purcell Quartet (for strings), The Palladian Ensemble (recorder and strings), Comparone and Bogdanovic (guitar and harpsichord), Verbruggen and Meyerson (recorder and harpsichord) all do excellent things with these pieces. But the flute and harpsichord really bring out the rhythmic power and the expressivity of these pieces. And Paula Robison is about as expressive a flute player as you'll find. So if you like this material and want to hear it rendered in this way, you'll certainly want to pick up this recording!
