These rare Cuban tracks were culled from the historic Sound Triangle label which produced the first Cuban LPs to be distributed in the United States following the 1959 embargo. These recordings were culled from over 1,500 masters, showcasing a vast diversity of authentic Cuban styles including Salsa, Bolero, Cumbia, Charanga, Danzón, Son, Guajira, Rhumba etc. This volume focuses on the true "folk" music of Cuba, the Son and Guajira styles popularized by small groups and trios in rural parts of the island. These styles have experienced a resurgence as of late, thanks to the advent of new recordings, most notably by the Buena Vista Social Club. The rare recordings presented on this CD represent the true roots of the movement and are a virtual treasure trove of some of the best authentic Cuban music ever recorded.
