4.0 out of 5 stars blissful debut
i'm waiting for this band to explode, and i'm wondering if it is going to happen in the following months. i really enjoyed this debut album from this excellent band. here's what to expect if you buy it:

the album is very similar to lifehouse's No Name Face. so, if you liked that album (if you didn't, you should listen to it again - it's amazing), i recommend this one...

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe 3.5
A pretty good alt-rock cd. The music is generally amazing but sometimes the vocals just aren't all they could be. Takes a week or two to get used to this but after that you probably won't mind a listen or two every now and then. For the fans of the softer side of rock.

i'm waiting for this band to explode, and i'm wondering if it is going to happen in the following months. i really enjoyed this debut album from this excellent band. here's what to expect if you buy it:

the album is very similar to lifehouse's No Name Face. so, if you liked that album (if you didn't, you should listen to it again - it's amazing), i recommend this one also.

the cons: Trip to the 13th is nowhere as deep or as moving as the lifehouse album; none of the songs are over 4 minutes (which is really discouraging); glen ballard's production makes the good songs better and the bad songs blander; at least four of the tracks are practically indistinguishable. that said...

the pros: Paramount, Sooner or Later, and Defense are three of the best songs i've heard this year. I believe SoL is the first single, and it is very radio-friendly. Paramount is potentially a huge track for radio. Crazy World, Live, Do It Again, and Not Quite Paradise are the norm for Bliss66, (if i were to download a song to see if i liked the band, it would be one of these.) Defense, the last song on the album, is brilliant. Like Everything ending Lifehouse's album, it takes the sound created in the previous 10 songs and slows it, distorts it, and produces a beautiful result. These 3 songs alone are worth the price of the album.

i wrote a review for No Name Face several months before it went big, and it appears that i'm doing the same with this band. i wish them the same luck and think that any fan of M20, Lifehouse, etc. would be well served in picking up this album. buy it cheap while you still can.

4.0 out of 5 stars surely, this is a band worth watching out for....!, May 26, 2003
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
a great album, Trip to the 13th really makes it's mark with tracks like Defense, Live, Paramount and Ain't This the Feeling... If you liked albums made by bands like Lifehouse and Familiar 48, then you'll also be taken with this one. it's not perfect, but all in all, this is a guaranteed "take your breath away" album from my point of view!

5.0 out of 5 stars wow., July 21, 2003
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
This may be my favorite cd ever. And that's coming from a guy with around 250 assorted rock and metal cds. It's almost undescribable as to how how much I love this cd. No matter the mood you're in, Bliss 66 will make your day. Perhaps some of the best driving music I've ever had.

I got the cd a few weeks ago after listening to the clips here. "Paramont" and "Trip" are two of the best songs I've ever heard, and the tunes and words will be forever stuck in your head. Not to mention, there's not one song I don't love. Some are going to stick with you more than others, but even songs that don't get as much attention as they should are only suffering because the entire album is so great.

I had no idea how much I would love this CD when I got it, and for someone with as many CDs as me, the fact that I listen to this every single day is saying something. If you are a fan of rock - any rock, you'll absolutely love this CD. Listen to the clips. Imagine the fact that the clips are no where near as good as the songs. Get the CD. You won't regret it at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ripped off by popular bands, December 27, 2003

Just some things I've noticed. The guitar melody in Sympathy on the Goo Goo Doll's 2002 album Gutterflower sounds exactly like the verse guitar melody in Letting Go from Bliss 66. And Take Me Away by Lifehouse on their 2002 CD Stanley Climbfall sounds extrememly similar to Ain't This the Feeling by Bliss 66. Except Take Me Away lacks the ultra catchy bridge/chorus with only mixing and vocals.

Close coincidences. Ultimately, thanks should go to Glen Ballard who's an ingenious producer (Aerosmith, Van Halen, Allanis Morissette, Live, The Corrs, Aretha Franlin, and too many more).

This CD often borders between catchy and generic. I think what keeps most of the songs in the former category is a lot of the great mixing and inclusion of keyboards and strings in some of the songs.

It's unfortunate that they did not catch on in the mainstream since there are some really good songs in the album. Starting out with Paramont is perfect since it's a hard rocking song. Sooner or Later kind of transitions the album into more of the pop/rock genre. Ain't This the Feeling is a gripping power ballard/rock type song. And the final two songs are definitely the best on the album. Apparently Crazy World was written in reaction to Columbine. On Defense, Bliss 66 and Glen Ballard went all out since it's easily the best song on the album.

You can definitely argue that the album was overproduced and intended for the mainstream, but I think all the post-production work is what makes this album so great. It has a very 'complete' feeling to it. Trip to the 13th comes recommended to all fans of the pop/rock genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent alternative record!!, March 14, 2005

Bliss 66's record, Trip to the 13th, is one of the finest alt/rock records released in recent years. On one hand, it's an excellent deviation for those who despise the "retro-rock" movement (The Darkness, Jet, The Vines, etc.). On the other hand, it reaffirms the fact that alt/rock can be both melodic and catchy, and edgy at the same time. Songs such as Defense, Paramont, and If We Could reflect this. If you're the type who's looking for a "middle-ground" between hard, crunching rock acts and jamming mainstream acts, Bliss 66 is the band to catch.

While searching for new music, I came across this cd and bought it after listening to a couple of excerpts. I was uncertain about it, but have been desperate for some new and different music, so I bought it along with several others(Pay The Girl*****, Dropline****,July For Kings*****,Familiar 48***). What a wonderful surprise. Certainly one of the best recent cd's I have heard. Very unique, the vocals and basswork are really amazing, and the cd has alot of original style. Certainly worth adding to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trip in Bliss, October 20, 2001
By
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
Catchy hooks and great harmonies, and more are just some of the things that make "Trip to the 13th" a trip in bliss. Each track has melodies and lyrics that that make you want to listen to the album over and over. From the the soothing ballad of "Crazy World," which was written about the Columbine tragidies to the first single, "Sooner or Later," the songs each have a distinct quality all its own.
Bliss has been compared to such likes as Matchbox 20, Lifehouse, Creed, and Pearl Jam but I think Bliss has their own unique style, regardless of what the crtics have said.
Their live shows proove more than what the album has to offer. It gives the audience a chance to feel the music, as Cheyenne Goff, leader singer, sings with an energetic vibe.
I would definetely reconmend this album to anyone looking for a new sound and go see their live shows if they stop by your area and feel the energetic vibe for yourself. They are nice guys, who are incredibly hot!

5.0 out of 5 stars This new band is on their way to the very TOP!!!, June 30, 2001
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
It has been a long time since I was able to truthfully say that I loved every song on a CD (the last time beeing Bush "sixteen stone"). This is most definitely the case with "Trip to the 13th". This band has recorded a masterpiece, which is very impressive for a first album. I recommend this CD to everyone who wants to here the most cutting edge music in the industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paradise, June 29, 2001
By
This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)
On track 8 lead singer states "It's not quite paradise", however this cd is just that, paradise. The opening track has a hook that will have you humming along by the second time it rolls along. Sooner or Later shows of the gust of the band. Songwriting has finally came around to rock again. It is about time that a band with qulaity musicians can actually right meaningful quality songs, with infinte melodic hooks. My personal favorite is Defense. This somber track starts of with a simple piano riff which the song continues to build around. Once the whole band is chimed in power anthem has been re-born. Amazing Cd. Go buy it.

This review is from: Trip to the 13th (Audio CD)

I was so glad to see these guys fins success and disappointed to see them part ways. I have followed them in their other projects since and they are doinq quite well.
If you don't have this CD, BUT IT NOW! They aren't that expensive and it will be the best $2.00 you spent in a long while.
