5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome second album from great group!, February 14, 2005
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
Cause and Effect may have been touted as a Depeche Mode wanna be on their first album, but with this second album, it is doubtful that you could say the same thing. This is one of those rare albums that is so fresh and new that you just listen to it over and over again. When I first bought this CD, I thought I would wear it out.
It's hard to define their music. It's not pop or rock, or new wave, or alternative, but rather it's possibly a little bit of each of these.
My favorite song is Crash, but that's not saying much since I'm enamored of the whole album. It's Over Now kicks off the album and moves into Inside Out, Alone, and then to the haunting In Shakespeare's Garden. Soul Search was a radio favorite and deservidly so. Stone Girl will have you humming and singing along with it long after the song is over.
There's not a whole lot that anyone (I'm prejudiced mind you) could find fault with on this dynamite album.

Get it - you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One in a million, July 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
I am a colector of electronic music, actually the american electronic bands were not so good for me so i went to a cd sale here in Mexico City and i bought this album for just 3 dollars. I was very excited about buying New Order's Substance that i left this gorgeous masterpiece in my closet for about one year. I listened it, i love the music but when i read the lyrics i couldn't place it out of my cd player. This one and the Beloved's single file are the most valuable CD's i've got. The most beautifull song i've ever heard is in shakespeare's garden. It might be your favourite song too.

I don't remember how I stumbled onto this album because they never played any Cause and Effect on the radio, but this was a brilliant album, it ranks in my top 10. Wish more people knew about this band, nothing too fancy, just some all around good synth-pop music.
Go out and buy this CD if you are in the mood for some good music. They just don't make them like this anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best synthpop albums of all times., May 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
This album has been in constant rotation in my CD player for the last 4 years. This band is one of the most underrated american bands out there. Noone else can blend synths and real instruments the way these guys did on this album. Favorite tracks are Alone, Crash and It's Over Now.

Their first album (Another Minute) and their third (Innermost Station-check out their web site for this one) are also great albums.

That's my $0.02

Chris

5.0 out of 5 stars Cause and Effect- Underdogs Of Electronica, November 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
Trip is truly an amazing album. I cannot believe that this band is still relatively unknown after all these years. I have to admit that before a couple of weeks ago, I hadn't listened to Trip in a couple of years. But after visiting their website and hearing they have a new release in the works I put it in my cd changer.

Pleasant surprise. I fell in love all over again. The musical textures and emotional depth are unlike anything I've ever heard in modern electronic music. I cannot recommend this album enough.

Let's hope that their new release brings them back to radio and MTV. These underdogs certainly deserve it.

I have to agree with the masses here. When I bought this CD way back when, I swear it didn't leave my CD player for months. It's one of the few CDs that I own that simply flows from track to track without giving a single reason to hit the "next track" button. I need to purchase it again as my original is getting kinda worn out. Ah well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic songs, great melodies, great moods, November 3, 2003

I love this album (obviosuly). The songs are really original and memorable. For me, the test of any great song is how well it sticks in my head. If I find myself humming it later, it's usually a great song (okay, some really bad songs can get stuck in my head too, but they're the exception). Anyway, the vocals are great. If you're into any kind of synth pop stuff, this is a must own.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars + a well kept secret of a very solid album of music, January 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
I first picked this album up on cassette when it came out it a few years ago and nearly wore it out - both sides are awesome. About a year ago, I came across the CD in a record store out of town and (like a dope) didn't buy it at the time... listened to my tape back home... well, then began the search for the CD of it and of course couldn't find it... been looking in nearly every record store for the CD... This album is worth finding and passing on as a reference to others ... and is without a doubt one of the most pleasant melodic/groove/flowing-dance oriented albums to listen to - both sides are vocally excellent, and the overall music has harnessed a timeless sense of melody.

As a long time recording musician, I can say this duo had a great thing going, wish there was more of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is not a group better., May 29, 1998

This is by far the best of my entire music collection. There is not a group that compares to their vocal ability. This album would be the one thing I would grab before jumping out of a burning building. --Dom

5.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY AN AWESOME CD, December 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Trip (Audio CD)
I have to say, this is one of the best cd's i ever bought...a friend introduced me to this band, and i love them ever since. This is one of those rare cd's that you can listen through straight without skipping any songs, because ALL of the songs on here are just awesome. I mean, every single track is great. And you never get sick of it. I can't say that for many many cd's, even some of Depeche Mode's, there are songs that you skip over. Even if i wasn't such a Depeche Mode, Erasure, and New Order fan, i would still have loved this cd for sure. This band needs so much more exposure, nobody knows about them. And although some reviewers claimed that they are depeche mode ripoff...Trip by Cause and Effect has its own great sound and this is just a great work of 80's new wave music. Buy it, and you will surely thank me for introducing you to such a great cd. you will surely not be disapointed.
