5.0 out of 5 stars Trip The Night Fantastic, April 3, 2003

We first heard Soul Ballet on a local modern jazz station about two years ago. The first time we heard their music, we were mesmerized, to say the least. We immediately went out and bought their other three albums, but until just this week, were unable to find this one. The other reviews here are on the money in that their music is sexy, sensuous, relaxing, and most definitely fit the Saturday night with the lights down criteria. Unlike other artists, we never tire of listening to Soul Ballet. What a shame they have so few CD's to offer. A very distinct sound all it's own, which is very unusual in this day and time.

This is my first sampling of Soul Ballet and I must say I am highly impressed.

It's a mixture of jazz with a smoother groove than many artists. There is a sense of truth behind it, hard to explain but this is a fabulous CD. U Desire Her, Romantique and Sashay are excellent. The other songs are great as well including Illicit Sisters and Tell Me Your Mine. Both have vocals, which I normally don't like in a smooth jazz CD but they are tastefully done and subtle but work with the music unlike many smooth jazz artists with vocals. I am on my second listening (just got it today -- thank you Amazon!) and it's certain to be a classic CD for your collection.

The above originally written on June 19, 2001 and I am still loving this CD. I was absolutely correct, despite it only being the first day I owned it, it's a classic in my collection.

Very much recommended. (October 17, 2005)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, September 20, 2004
This review is from: Trip the Night Fantastic (Audio CD)
This is an excellent contemporary jazz album, smooth with a bit of funk. Unlike many albums, these tracks don't all sound alike - good variety. I find this to be good energizing music either as background while I'm working or just to relax. It's definitely worth the purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Incredible, May 19, 2004

I drove straight to the record store on my home when I heard the first song from this album. It stayed in my car's cd player for months. 'Shashay' became my favorite song. Every cut on this album is terrific, some are just hauntingly beautiful. Even the vocals are just perfect for the songs and the music and I usually stay away from 'singing'. I hope Soul Ballet records for a long long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic sound - this CD is absolutely brilliant !, July 26, 2002

I first heard "Blu Girl" on Jazz fm and thought the track was knockout. Now i've got the cd I'm amazed at the fab sound - all the tracks are great. Smooth new age style jazz at its best, the trumpet playing is so smooth and the music is not too laid back but is upbeat without being too funky - very stylish sound.
This is a great CD. I tried for more than 6 months to buy it new but couldn't get it anywhere, but managed to buy one that is "as new". Trip the Night Fantastic is really fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, March 9, 2002
This review is from: Trip the Night Fantastic (Audio CD)
I have had this cd for over two years. Every time I put it on I am completely swept away. I LOVE IT!!!! I purchased it when I was living in Charlotte, and I was homesick for LA. I heard Blu Girl on the radio, and fell in love. When I purhcased it, I never made it past the first two tracks, because I kept hitting "repeat". Then one day, I made it through the entire cd. Now, I listen to it all and often. It is sexy, smooth, and takes you to another place....that is if you are a person who really feels music. You will not be sorry with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!, August 28, 2004
This review is from: Trip the Night Fantastic (Audio CD)
This CD is a pleasure to listen to in any location - car, home, while surfing on the computer, etc. It's upbeat smooth jazz and there are minimal vocals. Of course, Blu Girl is one of the best tracks, but the others are just as noteworthy. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a follow up!!, February 21, 2003

RK continues the new acid jazz sound with his follow up CD. And boy is it an awesome follow up!! He continues his "hip trip" keeping the music uptempo. "Blu Girl" is an nice ride to listen with. "Her Joyride" has great vocal editing effects with sounds like dogs barking. But the highlight of this CD is "Tell Me You're Mine", with sounds reminding me of the days back in the early 80's dance clubs. This is a great album from beginging to end!! Pick it up!!

5.0 out of 5 stars In love with Blu Girl., December 6, 2002

Blu Girl is beautiful. It reminds me of being a teenager, and seeing that one beautiful girl who I never got up the nerve to approach.
