A great all around book!
I first came across "Triple Cross" through an email newsletter that has a list of upcoming release books. "Triple Cross" caught my eye and I picked it up the day it was available. It's a thriller, thats written like a great action movie, with a great storyline, amazing characters and several plot twists that make for a non-stop read. This is one of those books, you won't want to put down. The Jefferson Club, where the richest of the rich men come to relax & vacation. On this particular New Year's Eve, seven of the ten richest men are taken hostage by a heavily armed paramilitary eco-terrorist squad calling themselves "The Third Position Army", they plan to put the men on trial, one by one. They also plan to broadcast the trials through the internet and let the viewers vote. The main character, Mickey Hennessey is the Jefferson Club head security guard, a former Secret Service agent. After the initial attack on the club, Mickey Hennessey is trapped outside, wounded and his three triplets, Connor, Bridger & Hailey are stuck inside. "Triple Cross" has a little bit of something for everyone. The story is intriguing and has alot of current / recent real events mixed into the story, including alot about fraudulent stock market trading. I'd never heard of Mark T. Sullivan before this book, apparently his previous six books havent made a huge splash here in the states, but he's well known in Germany. After reading and thoroughly enjoying "Triple Cross", I plan to check out Mark's future books and a few of his previous novels! It's a great read if you like thrillers, you won't be disappointed with this one and you might even learn something, I did! Search the web for more information about the real Jefferson Club, actually called the Yellowstone Club near the Big Sky ski resort, Montana!

Fantastic work of genius,
By BevE "BevE" (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
Mark T. Sullivan's new anti globalist thriller is a daring work of fiction in our present economic turmoil. This was one book that was hard to put down. Though at first it seemed to follow the usual predictable path of a special interest group out to prove it's point by terrorizing the elite, Mr. Sullivan's book takes a few turns that leaves the reader comparing the author's fiction to the facts of our faltering capitalism today. It's difficult not to become personally involved with the book, when our daily headlines read about corruption and trading that has brought companies to their knees. And just when you think you have it figured out, there's another revelation. The ending is a fantastic work of genius. If you love action/adventure Triple Cross is not to be missed. I absolutely loved this book.

4 1/2 Stars Fast and Exciting,
By
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
In his latest fast moving novel, Mark Sullivan proves he knows how to write a good thriller.
The plot revolves around a group of some of the worlds richest and most powerful men, who have come together for a very selective New Years Eve party in an exclusive southwest Montana resort, when a large group of some very well trained terrorists storm the resort and hold this group captive. What ensues is both exciting and riveting reading. Mickey Hennessey and Cheyenne O'Neil, two of the protagonists are very engaging and likeable characters. A very well rounded thriller concerning everything from global markets to the power of the internet (along with a very interesting use for it). The action scenes just seemed to go a little over the top, but other than that this was one heck of a thriller.

Total Page-turner!,

Though not normally my style of fiction, I couldn't put it down! (I passed it on to my sister, and she couldn't either.) Triple Cross is a thoroughly fun and page-turning read.

Triple Cross - Great book, impossible to put down,
By
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
I recently read Triple Cross and was engrossed by this book. Mark Sullivan has created a masterpiece - a book that is impossible to put down once you open and begin reading. I essentially read the book in 3 sittings - would have read it in one sitting if I weren't such a slow reader and busy with work.
The plot is complex, but understandable - and most importantly, the plot is plausible. The story that unfolds in Triple Cross has relevance in today's society - and digs into topics that affect everyone today - global finances, securities trading, greed, power-mongering, globalism, WTO, anti-WTO sentiment, terrorism - and how all these topics weave together and if not properly managed can lead to a disasterous situation for the United States and the world as we know it. I think this book is perfect material for a major motion picture - would actually be surprised if that doesn't happen. I loved this book and highly recommend it. Enjoy.

A hypnotic mind rush,
By T.B. Grant (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
Astutely plotted and well written, Sullivan's new born baby, "Triple Cross," deserves a home on the New York Times bestseller list. For that matter, people in Hollywood need to seriously consider making this thought-provoker into a film on the silver screen. Since "The Purification Ceremony" and "The Serpent's Kiss," this long-awaited suspense novel is finally available. Sullivan weaves an intricate hand over today's maddening economic downfalls and creates a story like no other suspense author I know. Within the joys of good storytelling and smart writing, as always, Sullivan writes a fierce and satisfying thriller that involves terrorists, hostages, corruption to our planet, and the real reason why the stock market plummeted into a pile of ashes around the world. Sullivan succeeds in the three E's of writing: entertains, enlightens, and educates. If there is one book you should read this year, let it be "Triple Cross." You will lick your fingers to turn the pages at a fast-paced rate, scurrying to the end of this brilliant caper. T.B. Grant 5/3/09

Imagine Cindy McCain Held Hostage by Anti-globalist Terrorists?,
By
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
Triple Cross by Mark Sulllivan Book Review by Mariclare Dunne Ballard Raymond Chandler could have written this novel had he possessed Sullivan's understanding of political developments and social movements. The story and characters cover an emotional and psychosocial range that would interest readers from Tom Hanks to Oliver Sacks. This will probably be a best seller and a film producer's dream. One reviewer described Mark Sullivan's story as tomorrow's headlines. The novel begins with, " True winter hit around 11 a.m. that New Year's Eve. Imagine Senator Dianne Feinstein, her millionaire-broker husband, Richard Blum; Senator John Mc Cain and billionaire wife, Cindy McCain; a Warren Buffet and other of the world's wealthiest people held hostage, put on " trial "by anti-globalists, viewed by ten million TV viewers at a spectacular New Years Eve Celebration at their most exclusive, most secure "club in southwestern Montana." Ten million viewers watch " The General" conduct the trials accusing the power brokers of greed and corruption. Readers from the Financial Times to USA Today will be glued to their seats. Sullivan consulted with the best to write a story about good and evil including the perspective of anti-globalist terrorists Sullivan's clear-cut descriptions, allusions and no nonsense writing evoke a Hemingway mystery style. His insights about humanity are understandable when one read the author's acknowledgements and sees the depth of his research. This novel received excellent reviews. Too many revealed too much of this story. I am not going to do that except to say the relationship of Hennessy, The Vice President of Security for the "club" and his triplet teenagers is worth the reading alone. One reviewer stated that she could not put the book down, an old axiom but so true for this read. I read Triple Cross recently while cruising the Pacific ocean. I came home and read it again . It was a lovely second read on a Saturday afternoon. Don't plan any activity once you start reading this book. I just bought several as gifts for friends.

Mark T. Sullivan is at his very best here,
By Bookreporter (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
It has been entirely too long since a new novel from Mark T. Sullivan has graced the bookshelves. The newly published TRIPLE CROSS proves that the wait was well worth it. Whatever he has been doing since the release of THE SERPENT'S KISS in 2003, it has not affected his writing craftsmanship. His latest effort is a page turner of the first order, a tale that will get the blood pumping and keep it that way.
If one were to do a movie pitch for TRIPLE CROSS, it would be along the lines of "Die Hard at a ski resort," though such a short description only begins to tell the tale. The world's richest men --- and we're talking about the rankings from Number One on down --- gather at the Jefferson Club, an ultra-exclusive ski resort in Montana for a New Year's party that none of them will ever forget. At the stroke of midnight, a small, highly-trained army invades the resort, holds the captives hostage, and begins a series of kangaroo courts that are broadcast over the Internet and then via cable television news networks, trying each of the captains of industry for crimes against the planet. The mastermind behind these activities is the enigmatic General Anarchy, a military strategist and self-identified anti-globalist who is possessed of an encyclopedic knowledge concerning the people he has held hostage. Having commanded the perimeter of the Jefferson Club, which in turn is buried in a raging snowstorm, Anarchy appears to be able to wreak vengeance on his captives at will. There are some wild cards in the mix, however. Michael "Mickey" Hennessy, the vice-president of security at the Jefferson Club, has managed to escape, though he is grievously wounded. Hennessy is both a blessing and a curse to the FBI agents who have responded to the attack. A former member of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, Hennessy is known to the public at large as a hero for having previously saved the life of the U.S. Secretary of State. The problem, though, is that Hennessy's children, a set of 14-year-old triplets, were visiting him at the resort over the New Year's holiday and are still trapped there. But they do have one advantage: their father trained them in his tradecraft, so they are hardly helpless. In fact, they may be more capable of turning the tide than anyone, including Hennessy, can anticipate. Even as the FBI plans a desperate hostage rescue attempt, General Anarchy continues his sinister execution of his hostages, with a goal that extends far beyond his stated aims and far beyond the walls of the Jefferson Club. Mark T. Sullivan is at his very best here, nicely balancing the action on the inside of the Jefferson Club with the anxiety on the outside, and making the Hennessy children just capable enough to be believable. There is an element of the old and beloved Hardy Boys series at play here as well, given that the young Hennessys not only help to tip the balance of power on top of the terrorists, but also provide a valuable clue as to the identity of General Anarchy. Toss in elements of Sullivan's own considerable knowledge of all things concerning skiing, and a quick lesson in what comes into play with security fences, and you have one of the year's best reads thus far. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long for Sullivan's next novel.

Loved the book. A non-stop thrill ride of exciting twists and turns, culminating in a punch in the gut twist at the end. Literally could not put the book down, and stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to finish it. If your into action, suspense, political satire, and intrigue this is the book for you. Would make a great basis for a movie. 2 thumbs up - way up.

This review is from: Triple Cross (Hardcover)
The Jefferson Club is an exclusive club located in the Montana mountains. Everything is perfect, and security is top notch. It costs millions to stay at the Jefferson Club, and on this particular New Year's Eve, some of the richest men in the world are there, along with their wives and families. When The Third Position Army, a group that fights corporate greed, infilitrate the supposed impenetrable Club, everyone is shocked. Head of Security, Mickey Hennessy, reformed alcoholic and drug addict, had just left dinner to remove himself from the wine sitting beside his plate. He is stunned to hear gun shots while out walking it off, and runs back to the lodge to help. But he is shot before he can get access, and immediately runs towards the road to get help. It's a parent's worst nightmare as his triplets are still inside the Club. The Third Position Army demands 100 Billion from each player in the Club in exchange for their lives. After they all pay, General Anarchy, the leader, lets everyone go with the exception of the six richest men in the world. Everyone rushes outdoors to freedom, and the television crews go crazy as a well-known actress leads the crowds. They all relish in telling their story and are relieved to be free, but Mickey is stunned. His kids weren't in the released hostages and were still inside. General Anarchy and his Army have trials for the six men with the people able to vote guilty or not guilty. They are broadcast over the internet, and punishment is immediate. The children search valiantly for their father in the Jefferson Club, but come up empty. They then try to find a way out of the Club, but the Third Position Army have it secured. What follows are a series of events that will leave you stunned. An edge-of-your-seat thriller that is intense, fast-paced, and filled with characters that come alive off of the pages. I was captivated from page one and couldn't put it down. This is the first work of Mark T. Sullivan I have read, but I'm going to be looking for more of his work. A highly addictive reality thriller! |
