Still bruised and a little pain but nothing like the misery of the last two falls.

These pads provided the lightweight and breathable protection that really allowed me to experiment outside of the box without extreme bruising to my hips/butt.

The bum saver definitely helps save your tailbone when you fall and makes sitting in the snow bearable.

I don't know about you but when i do fall while snowbaording it is usually not on my hips. Rather more of my butt and backbone. But this pair of "Bumsaver" doesnt really protect your butt as the title sugests. It has lots of padding on the hips and thighs but not enough for the butt. In fact the tailbone pad is too short that you really need to hike up your pants above waist level to make sure that when you do fall it will have some protection.

Pros: very breathable, stylish and very minimalist. Can't really tell you have it on and makes you look like you have some strong quads!

At the young age of 51 & a 30 year lay off from skateboarding I decided to start riding again (it's all facebook's fault, I reconnected with some of the pro skaters I knew from back in the day who still skated) well one thing lead to another & after a couple body slams at the bottom of the pools resulting in badly bruised hips I bought this product. These are FANTASTIC! I can wear them under my normal short pants & you can hardly tell I have them on but if/when I should happen to fall on then the do the job, no more bruises! I highly recommend this product! Check out this video, not bad for an old man!

I got this to try out for snowboarding. I did a few tests falls (from standing to falling on my ass) on concrete and although it did a good job of protecting the tail bone, the uneven padding pretty much just cushioned my tailbone and gooch, leaving my cheeks exposed for injury.

I wouldn't recommend this simply because I didn't find it comfortable when sitting on the ground due to uneven padding/pressure across your butt. And for snowboarding you're always sitting whether it's the lift, strapping your boots on, or just waiting on the side for friends. It doesn't hurt when sitting, it's just a bit weird.

I've used the skeletools impact shorts, which pretty much has a giant rectangle foam pad covering the ass, and other than being a bit bulky, is quite comfortable sitting down with it, and even works as an insulator when sitting on the snow. The reason I got the T8 was because it was much cheaper and more readily available. But the T8, would have cold spots around parts of my cheeks. I tried the T8 Derby shorts and although the coverage was a bit better, I still did not like the gaps. And when you sit down, the back end of the shorts stretches, making the gaps between the foam wider.

Loved the overall comfort and fit:
pros: has good tail bone, hip, and lateral thigh protection, lightweight, breathable mesh keeping you cool and dry
Cons: a bit on the pricey side, would be better if to have spandex material/wick away,

Overall: ideal for wearing over thermals. 8/10 for snowboarding! They did save my butt several times on a 3 day snowboarding trip!

I bought these after I got a hematoma from falling on my hip really hard. I've fallen a lot since I got these, and never even been sore the next morning. I'll never skate without them again.

One nice feature is that you can remove any of the pads that aren't needed for your activity. I removed the lowest pads, around the thigh, because they didn't seem necessary for derby.

I'm 6'3", 180lbs, 33-34in waist. The medium size fits me well. I ordered large first, but they were way too big.

THESE ARE FANTASTIC! I use them for snowboarding and inline skating, two activities where I fall A LOT. The truest test for these shorts was five hard falls on asphalt last week while skating, and I didn't even feel it--no bruising, no soreness. The shorts provide great all around padded coverage (including a tailbone pad) and stretchy breathable fabric. I just give them a quick handwash in the sink and 24 hours to dry. I don't think machine washing is a good idea, as the pads are not removable and might get twisted up even though they are sewn in pretty tight. As for visibility, I skate in baggy cargos and these shorts are not visible at all underneath the cargos or my ski clothes. Well worth it, and I have so much more fun at both sports now because I'm not as afraid of falling.

I got these in extra small for my two boys 12 and 10. Both have skinny butts, but the younger one in particular is small for his age. The report back from the older ds is that it does help some, but younger ds says not really. I think the gap in the butt area between pads is too wide, when I put my hands in and stretch width wise, the actual cheek area has minimal protection, but great protection in the hips.

I took up snowboarding for the first time this past christmas. Now taking another look at these, I'd have to say that the protection is probably moderate and these are not designed for snowboarders. Snowboarders do lots of butt plants when on heel edge of board, and knee plants when on toe edge of board (fall on knees and forearms, not on wrists). When you think about how the board is aligned w your body it makes sense that you are more likely too do a bum plant (UNLESS you are in the terrain park), ------if you are a skier, you will more likely to land on your sides while falling as skis align to the body perpendicular to snowboards, so these might be better suitable for that.

Ok, wandering off topic but ----I would say another really great piece of gear are knee pads. The knees have no padding at all. If you are shredding in the NE, the snow is compacted and it feels like your knees are making contact with ice! Also, unless you have super strong abs and great balance, you won't be able to get up heel side, you'd have to flip to your front and get up toe side from your KNEES and it hurts as you'll be getting up a lot. My husband who is a decent snowboarder took a wipe out trying to avoid a kid who cut him off and fell forward. His knees are all bruised, luckily nothing more serious.
