This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
As I stated on my "That Damn Good" DVD review...backstage politics aside, Triple H is one of the best performers in the industry today. He's for the in-ring presence of a modern day Harley Race with the charisma & diversity of Ric Flair. It's been a long time (over 5 years) since they dropped a DVD SOLEY on The Game & it will take the same format that Austin's & Hogan's latest releases are where they'll have his matches with comments in between on various incidents such as getting started in the business, time in WCW, Chyna, the curtain call, King Of The Ring including a funny story about the "crown" itself, the evolution (no pun intended) of his character, his quad injury, Shawn's return, Ric Flair, Batista, Edge & John Cena amongst other things.

Matches include: vs. John Crystal - This was his RAW debut & nothing special past that.
RAW May 1995

vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Marc Mero - Triple H's first title reign began here as the whole plan involving the "mole" Mr. Perfect came to play as Perfect (who had problems with HHH and befriended Mero) turned on Mero to help HHH win the championship.
RAW Oct. 1996

King of the Ring Final Match vs. Mankind - This was the match that put him on the map & started his elevation into becoming who we know today. This was the most aggressive you've seen Triple H up to that time as he did things to Foley you haven't seen before like the pedigree through the announce table, Chyna breaking the scepter over his back, and Triple H not stopping the attack after he won the match.
King Of The Ring 1997

WWE European Championship Match vs. Owen Hart - The stipulation here was that Chyna was going to be handcuffed to Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter at ringside during the match. Triple H & Owen Hart worked a real good match here with the Chyna factor not really playing a fact until the end.
WrestleMania XIV

vs. WWE Champion Mankind - Mankind was inserted into the Austin/Triple H SummerSlam match & walked away the champion. This was the night after when Triple H captured his first of many World Championships.
RAW Aug. 1999

No Holds Barred WWE Championship Match vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin - This match always gets heavily overshadowed by their later encounters as they went hard in the ring & just had an out of control brawl out the ring include Austin "lowering the boom" on HHH. The ending involving The Rock doesn't take away from the match itself & was supposed to set up the Survivor Series match that wasn't meant to be due to Austin's injury.
No Mercy 1999

Career vs. WWE Title Hell in a Cell Match vs. Cactus Jack - Mick Foley's original retirement match as it was career vs. title here. After their classic Rumble street fight, this match didn't top it but did its job in letting Foley end his career with a bang. The story was about Foley promising to come off the cage onto Triple H so he had the cage locked so they couldn't get out but eventually found a way out after he missed hitting Triple H with the steel steps. The ending involving the flaming "Barbie" & Cactus on top the cell was something.
No Way Out 2000

30- Man Royal Rumble Match - They show everything after Triple H entered since he wasn't involved in the entire Rumble unlike how it was on Flair & HBK's DVD sets. Hunter's time in the Rumble involved a confrontation with Steve Austin, a comedic moment involving The Hurricane, the return of Mr. Perfect, and the final moments between him & Kurt Angle.
Royal Rumble 2002

3 Stages Of Hell Match vs. World Heavyweight Champion Shawn Michaels - The story here was will we see the "humble" Shawn Michaels or "Heartbreak Kid?" Just a side note but watch before the match gets started as Ric Flair kept getting into it with the referee to the point where he gets shoved on his ass...it's funny. The street fight was brutal as they didn't do a lot of weapons spots but just instead beat the hell out of each other & occasionally use weapons such as a flaming barbed wire board. The cage match was around 10 mins. with the only memorable spot being HBK's dive onto Triple H though a table. The ladder match wasn't the caliber of HBK's previous ladder matches but it was still good considering the circumstances with the finish of HBK falling off the ladder though loads of tables being a highlight to the point where WWE continued to use that footage in their "Don't try this at home" advertisement before any WWE home video.
Armageddon 2002

Hell In The Cell vs. World Heavyweight Champion Batista - Their third, last, and best encounter. Many hardcore weapons (barbed wire chairs for example) were used. Triple H bleeds buckets once again as Batista wins with a spinebuster on top of the ring steps.
Vengeance 2005

Last Man Standing Match vs. Ric Flair - Triple H brought out the best in Flair (at this day & age) in their feud. Triple H was ruthless while Flair wasn't giving up until HHH had to use the sledgehammer to put Flair down. I enjoyed their cage match better than this but I think they put this one on here since Triple H won the match here.
Survivor Series 2005

vs. WWE Champions John Cena vs. vs. Edge - The match was good with Triple H being heavily busted open & all three men working well together.
Backlash 2006

DVD Extras
Hog Pen Match vs. Henry Godwinn - I guess Triple H can laugh at himself because his was a "wrestlecrap" match that is really nothing special past the "blueblood" Hunter being tossed into a muddy pigpen complete with hogs.
In Your House Dec. 1995

1st Professional Match as Terra Ryzing vs. Flying Tony Roy - The match itself was nothing special but pretty funny to see the babyfaced Triple H with the mullet-like hairstyle back then. The commentary with Jim Ross & Triple H is the real highlight here.
Burlington, VT Jan. 1992

In the end, this collection is giving me exactly what I want from a DVD set. None of these matches are on other DVD sets (besides the PPV anthologies), they brought back the alternative commentary, highlight special moments in his career, and the match quality is there. The only thing I can think of that is missing is a match with The Rock since that was one of the biggest feuds from the attitude era. In the end, I recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Cerebral DVD, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
i bought this DVD the day it came out and finished watching it in about 3 days. this is a good release, especially for WWE DVD collectors that grow tired of seeing the same matches on EVERY WWE DVD (Rock-Hogan WM X-8 anyone?).

I have about 15 WWE Superstar DVDs and I can say the only match from this HHH DVD i had was the 02 Royal Rumble.

The rest of these matches are pretty rare, and although there are only about 14 matches, I would still recommend this DVD. The matches are all good, especially the ones against Mick Foley (3). I only gave this DVD 4 Stars due to the lack of a documentary (will probably be released in the future) and the decision to only go with 2 discs, instead of the fairly-common 3 for WWE DVDs.

I would probably say Bret Hart, HBK, and the Ladder Match DVDs are all a bit better than this one because they have more content, but i can't stress enough the overall match quality on this Triple H DVD.

In the end, this is a great DVD and Triple H fans will definitely not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars King of DVDs...almost, May 3, 2008
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
I have been a wrestling fan since 1996 and have watched all kinds of wrestling. I have a wrestling DVD/VHS collection spanning over 50 all together. This is the most complete and accurate review of this DVD you will find. I hope you find this review helpful; remember to vote helpful or not helpful. (Note-Each DVD I review has a "Match of the DVD" award somewhere in it.)

Triple H The King of Kings- There is only one
Triple H has been given a third DVD to go along with the 2002 releases of WWE - Triple H - The Game and wwf Triple H - That Damn Good This 2-Disk set goes through the Game's career, showing some of his most important matches. WWE really worked hard on the cover of this DVD. The dual layers give it a 3-D look and the artwork itself is amazing. All matches are in full, except one, for your viewing pleasure.

-Disk 1-

This DVD begins by The Game talking about how he got to WWE to start with. He talks about his training and time with WCW.

Raw- 5/22/95
Hunter Hearst Helmsley VS John Crystal
This is the WWE Debut of Triple H under the blue blood gimmick. It's your regular squash type match with not much to it. Triple H does a good job with his debut though. Look for Triple H using a Cutter for his finisher.
RATING- 3/10

After his debut match, Triple H talks about the pressure behind working with local talent. He then goes on to talk about the honor of holding the Intercontinental title at that time.

Raw- 10/21/1996
WWF Intercontinental Championship
Hunter Hearst Helmsley VS Marc Mero(c) w/Mr. Perfect
This match was originally supposes to be HHH VS Mr. Perfect, but Perfect was injured. Perfect handpicked HHH's opponent for the night though. The match is well paced but doesn't come off that great. Mero hits a good-looking moonsault.
RATING- 7.5/10

Triple H talks about how Chyna became his bodyguard and how much of a change it was for the wrestling industry. He talks about being held back for a while but then coming back to win King of the Ring. He tells a funny story about the crown.

WWF King of the Ring 1997
Finals of the King of the Ring
Mankind VS Hunter Hearst Helmsley w/Chyna
Oddly enough, these guys put on a horrible match. The match itself was very slow and boring. The match does pick up until near the end. The end foreshadows what they are capable of doing in the future. Either way, it lasts way to long and is very boring.
RATING- 4/10

Triple H speaks on his transformation to becoming more like himself.

WWF WrestleMania XIV
WWF European Championship
Owen Hart VS Triple H(c) w/Chyna
It is nice to see Owen Hart on DVD. Chyna had to be handcuffed is Commissioner Slaughter during this match so she would not interfere. Triple H and Hart have a decent wrestling match. Nothing too special, but a good match regardless. Chyna makes her presence known regardless of the stipulation.
RATING-7.5/10

Triple h speaks on creating his own D-X and how D-X went from heels to faces in one day. Triple H then talks about his turn on D-X and elevation to the Main Event.

Raw- 8/23/1999
WWF Championship Match
Mankind(C) VS Triple H
Look what Triple H is wearing during his entrance. It looks sort of cool but at the same time very lame. The match itself isn't great. This was a way to get the title on Triple H for the first time and carry a bunch of heat with it. The Rock's commentary is the best part of the match.
RATING- 6/10

Triple h talks about being in the Main Event. He goes on to tell about how many times he has worked with Austin.

WWF No Mercy 1999
No Holds Barred- WWF Championship
Triple H(c) VS Stone Cold Steve Austin
What a fight these two had. They brawl all over the place. There are many weapons used in this match. This match is fast and furious and you won't forget it.
RATING- 9/10

Between these matches, Triple H talks about his on-air relationship with Stephanie McMahon and the McMahon's in general. He also talks about wanting to do Mick Foley justice in his retirement match.

WWF No Way Out 2000
Hell in a Cell- Career VS WWF Championship
Triple H(C) VS Cactus Jack
This match was the follow-up to the amazing WWE Royal Rumble 2000 Street Fight that these two had. Cactus Jack has been given one more chance at the title, but if he loses then he must retire. This is a great match from top to bottom. Triple H has locked the cell doors with dozens of locks so Cactus can't climb to the top and fly off onto Triple H as Cactus has been saying he would. The match does start a little too slowly, but eventually picks and gets brutal.
RATING- 9/10

Triple H talks about his injury from 2001 and how his return went.

WWE Royal Rumble 2002
30-Man Royal Rumble Match
This was the worst way to put this match on the DVD. You start in the middle of the match when Triple H enters the ring. You miss a lot of good things that went on during the Rumble. You do get to see Curt Hennig in action, which is nice. I felt like this was a waste of DVD space due to it not being the full rumble.
RATING- 4/10

-Disc 2-

Triple H talks about the return of Shawl Michaels to the ring and how he was the only one Shawn trusted to have a match with. The match they had at WWE SummerSlam 2002 would lead into our next match.

WWE Armageddon 2002
2 out of 3 Falls Match- World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H VS Shawn Michaels(c)
This match is amazing. Every single part of it was perfect. The first fall was a Street Fight that was absolutely brutal. A flaming barbwire board comes into play and connects with one of the best shots I've ever seen. It is also cool how the barbwire becomes lighted. The next fall is a Steel Cage match. The cage match just continues the brutality and sees Flair get involved. The third fall is a Ladder Match. The entire first and second fall is setting up the climax to the third fall. It's amazing how they could keep me guessing the entire match when it was going to happen. It is like something you'd see in Saw, where something is being built toward the entire time but you don't know what it is until it happens. Yeah, I just compared wrestling to Saw, odd right?
RATING- 10/10

Triple H talks about the rise of Batista and how he made sure their first real conflict was saved.

WWE Vengeance 2005(Match of the DVD)
Hell in a Cell- World Heavyweight Championship
Batista(c) VS Triple H
This is one of my favorite Hell in a Cell matches, right next to the brutal Undertaker/Lesnar match from WWE - No Mercy 2002. It's back and forth action all the way. A steel chair wrapped in Barbwire is introduced early and becomes the focus point of the match. Steel steps are also used with the utmost brutality. The ending is so well done.
RATING- 10/10

Triple H talks about his feud with his Idol, Ric Flair.

WWE Survivor Series 2005
Last Man Standing
Ric Flair VS Triple H
After their brutal Steel Cage match at WWE Taboo Tuesday 2005 a Last Man Standing was the only way to finish this feud. These two put on an awesome show. Triple H uses chairs, stairs, and even a screwdriver on Ric Flair. Ric Flair bleeds buckets. This match has another fantastic ending.
RATING- 9.5/10

Triple H talks about John Cena and Edge and his feelings for each of them. He tells a story of Cena asking about his performance at WWE WrestleMania 22.

WWE Backlash 2006
Triple Threat- WWE Championship
John Cena(c) VS Triple H VS Edge
This is a very good Triple Threat match. Cena and Triple H team up on Edge a lot. There is a huge triple turnbuckle move and many other 3-man moves. Triple H is bleeding all over the place. The ending is nice considering it's not the same old ending we always see in Cena matches.
RATING- 8.5/10

Triple H finishes up the DVD with how he would like to be remembered and wh he is going to keep on wrestling as long as he can.

Extras Included-
In Your House (12/17/1995)
Hog Pen Match
Henry O. Godwinn VS Hunter Hearst Helmsley
I am not sure why this match is put on here. I guess it is a contrast Triple H of 1995 to the Triple H of today.
RATING-3/10

Triple H-First Professional Match (11/1/1992)
Terra Ryzing VS Flying Tony Roy
The match itself is not worth anything, but it is cool hearing Triple H and Jim Ross' commentary over Triple H's start in the business.
Rating-None

5.0 out of 5 stars Bow Down To The King!!!, December 19, 2008
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
This two-disc DVD set is a chronicle of one of the most dominant and controversial Superstars in the WWE, and it's a good one. It details his beginnings in independent organizations, then his brief stint in World Championship Wrestling, where he wrestled as Terra Ryzing and Jean-Paul Levesque, respectively. Then, he is shown in his early days in WWE as Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the American Blueblood, wrestling some local talent in different towns. It chronicles his first singles title win, the Intercontinental Championship, winning it from Marc Mero in 1996. He then is shown winning King of The Ring 1997 from Mankind (Mick Foley) with Chyna at his side. He then is seen against Owen Hart for his European Title at Wrestlemania 14. He also faces Mankind (Mick Foley) again a couple of times, one match which results in him winning his first of 12 World Titles. He is seen in matches against Shawn Michaels, Batista, John Cena, Edge, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Nature Boy Ric Flair and Henry O. Godwinn, most of which he wins and wins the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship. There is a bit about his days in Degeneration-X and Evolution, but not a great deal. More about D-X can be found a separate DVD set. He is also seen as Number 22 entrant into the 2002 Royal Rumble, which he wins. There is also footage shown of his first match, against Flying Tony Roy, which is part of the rather skimpy extras on this set. I would give this set about a 4 1/2 out of five stars for the terrific compendium of his career, but I would've liked to see more extras. Whether you call him "The Game," The Cerebral Assassin" or "The King of Kings," this is one DVD set you must own.

5.0 out of 5 stars EVERY INCH THE SUPERSTAR......................................., May 3, 2008
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
Triple H is without a shadow of a doubt, one of the greatest stars the WWE has ever had. OK, so he is now the bosses son-in-law, but that is beside the point. He gives his all 110% to the business and never disappoints. This is a wonderful collection of his matches. Personally i would to prefer to see more commentary from this great man, but I am happy enough with what is included here.
Many criticise him, mostly those who are jealous of him I suspect. Bill Goldberg and Dave Batista amongst others have nothing but good to say about him.
These DVDs trace his way through his career, picking out what he no doubt considers his best matches.
Extremely good value for money, I would not missed it.
But then, he can do nothing wrong for me.
Nice One Hunter!

2.0 out of 5 stars Another same old WWE release that leaves you disapointed, April 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
released in 2008... yet only shows his career up to his match against Edge and Cena...2006, no continuation onto the DX reunion era, and so on..

And it's the same old, 2 minute intro, match, two minute intro, match... the fans want the full story, not a few career highlight matches, hell, he talks about the DX days for 1 minute before going onto the next move in his career, no in depth interviews, just the same old boring things you've heard before.

save your money and wait for them to release the next 100 versions of a triple h story over the next 10 years.

He may not be liked by everybody... but as he says; "you can't help who you fall in love with!" Which is very true! HHH has had some of the best feuds and matches in WWE history. He has put his body and life on the line time and time again!

4.0 out of 5 stars There is only one: The King of Kings, Triple H!!, September 30, 2010
By
This review is from: Triple H: King of Kings - There is Only One (DVD)
Triple H King of Kings WWE DVD Set

6 Hour Running Time on 2 DVD Discs

This DVD set is great for Triple H fans! It does not follow the separate documentary story format I prefer. Instead it has interview segments between matches starting at the beginning of Triple H's career and does not dwell much into his personal life. He began in WCW until he got the call from Vince and made the best decision of his life in going to the WWE.

He was brought in with vignettes and introduced to the audience as a snooty high society type with the braided hair. Very gradually over time, his character began to change into something closer to himself. The pressure of being a workhorse eventually paid off in getting the Intercontinental Championship which was a big milestone in his career.

Triple H talks about getting into a stable with the Click, eventually D-Generation X, and how Chyna was recruited into the WWE after he and Shawn Michaels met her. The McMahon-Helmsley Era resulted out of some story ideas tossed around with Vince that the chairman ended up liking even though Triple H and Stephanie had only met maybe 6 times. (If you want more detail on how their relationship started, go watch McMahon's DVD Set.) Championships piled up and then a major injury of a torn muscle kept him out of "The Game" for a long time until he could come back and win the Royal Rumble in 2002 with a huge ovation from the fans.

Triple H had to help out his buddy, Shawn Michaels several times over the years and he talks a little about their relationship (covered better in the two Shawn Michaels DVD Sets for My Journey and Heartbreak & Triumph), the rivalry with Batista after he was built up in Evolution, wrestling his idol, Ric Flair, and facing the next generation of wrestlers.

At this point in current WWE television, Triple H has been away probably on vacation since Wrestlemania and while I expected a big return at Summerslam, it seems that was reserved for The Undertaker instead (who usually also takes his vacation during that time). So when is Triple H coming back? Your guess is as good as mine, but I have a hunch it'll still be a pay-per-view.

Matches:

Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs John Crystal - Raw 1995
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Marc Mero - WWE Intercontinental Championship Raw 1995
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Mankind - King of the Ring Finals 1997
Triple H vs Owen Hart - Wrestlemania XIV 1998
Triple H vs Mankind - WWE Championship Raw 1999
Triple H vs Stone Cold Steve Austin - No Holds Barred WWE Championship No Mercy 1999
Triple H vs Cactus Jack - No Way Out Hell in a Cell Career Ending Match 2000
Triple H's return from injury - Royal Rumble 2002
Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - World Heavyweight Championship Armageddon 2002
Triple H vs Batista - World Heavyweight Championship Hell in a Cell Vengeance 2005
Triple H vs Ric Flair - Last Man Standing Survivor Series 2005
Triple H vs John Cena vs Edge - WWE Championship Backlash 2006

Extras:

Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Henry O. Godwinn - Hog Pen Match In Your House 1995
Triple H - First Professional Match with Triple H and Jim Ross on commentary

Great matches! Just wish there was a bit more story to this set since I'd been looking forward to it so long when I got it and it seems pretty brief for one of my favorite wrestlers.
