Product Description

Amazon.com

Triple Play Baseball is about as close as one could get to a hypothetical Extreme Baseball League (call it XBL). The game's Big League Challenge pits you against baseball's biggest sluggers in a home run contest, and Extreme mode will provide targets to challenge your timing and accuracy. Baseball purists, however, shouldn't be alarmed--Triple Play Baseball is still a very traditional game. It includes updated rosters, stats, and stadiums (including new additions Miller Park in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh's PNC Park). Toronto Blue Jays manager Buck Martinez and Jim Hughson provide the game's color commentary and play-by-play, respectively.

First off, this year's Triple Play is a very good and very entertaining baseball game. Just like the last couple of years it is a quality product that provides a good baseball experience. That said, it has its drawbacks.
First, this game feels a little slower than the last two years. Even at the fastest game settings those 100 mph fastballs look pretty much the same as the 70 mph changeups. That means that batting isn't very hard, but getting a human opponent out is difficult.
The graphics weren't all that wonderful either, but aren't a major problem. Stadiums look rather bland and don't seem all that true to life. Players also look a little strange as well. Nothing really makes you feel like you are actually at the game.
In the sound department the play by play seems to be wrong a little more often than in previous games, which could likely bother some gamers. The announcers also get a little too excited over plays that aren't all that special.
This game, much like any sports game really, could have benefited from the franchise type of play that has made the Madden series, as well as some of the Dreamcast titles, nearly infinitely playable. I would have loved to see some type of minor league system and some of the top prospects in this game.
As I said the game is very good. It's just hard not to focus on the negatives when the game hasn't changed much and there is nothing new to report. There are few real problems, just disappointments. It more or less all comes down to whether or not you feel you need to be playing with updated rosters which, unfortunately, were finalized a little too early yet again this year.

It has been said before and I'll say it again, this new version is almost exactly similar to its 2001 counterpart. The rosters have been updated, so A-Rod is on Texas here. The new stadiums from last year's version, such as Enron and Pac Bell have been "spruced-up" a bit, so they look nicer. TP 2001 was a great game, and since this year's version is the same, this is also a great game. However, if you are not into baseball that much, and own TP 2001, there is no real need to upgrade to TPB. Overall, it is what you would expect from an EA sports game.

I just got this hoping for some new features, sad to report that this is nearly the EXACT SAME game as last years(TP 2001). The graphics evened seemed a little grainier than before. Sadly, some of the same problems still plague this game...I am sick of having my shortstop or second baseman catching balls in the outfield! The announcers have the same lines as last year, and SF's Pac-Bell park still shows NO signs of the Giant Glove or Coke-bottle in left field! What's up EA??

Based solely on this product, I will never purchase or rent another game made by EA again. While the graphics are adequate, the game play (the most important thing) is like stepping back in time to the early 1980's. More often than not, the game will freeze in extra innings. Also in "Pro" season and playoff mode, the game has a function that will automatically allow the team you are playing to catch up with you. So if you have a five-run lead, the next five guys you pitch to, no matter who they are, will hit solo home runs. Kind of defeats the purpose of competition, doesn't it? Don't bother with this piece of garbage, and that goes for any other EA product as well.

yo get off your butts and go buy this game. I mean this game is the best baseball game on playstation,I hear all of this talk about the transition of all-star baseball 2002,but I guarantee that when It is all said and done Ea sports will have the last laugh. Besides year and year out Ea sports constantly proves the non-believers wrong so go out and buy this game it is worth every single penny ya heard!!
P.S.- If you disagree after you play it email me at Epelt@msn.com

This series has the best batter-pitcher interface, and graphics, but that's about all. The defense and base-running are terrible! It's pretty easy to use a conservative swing and go the other way, but the way the ball reacts after being hit is not good... I've been playing baseball games since the original RBI... I've owned and played at least 25 different bsaeball games, [but] this series is terrible!
