From School Library Journal
Grade 5-9-- A series of baseball books with the theme that teamwork, goal setting, and hard work will bring rewards to the individual player. Although this could sound didactic, it isn't, for Montgomery has woven a multitude of playing strategies into the basic plot of a student who wants to be a pitcher on his school team. These books need to be read in order. In the first, Robbie Belmont, 15, has to examine his attitude and goals when the coach asks him to learn to be a catcher. Book two continues Robbie's story of catching for his high school team but still yearning to be a pitcher and of overcoming injuries. Book three contains more romance for the now 18-year-old boy, as well as decisions on whether to turn pro or go to college. All three books have large print, short chapters, and assorted pen-and-ink illustrations. --Blair Christolon, Prince William Library, Manassas, VA
