This review is from: Triple Treat 3 (Audio CD)
Overlooked but outstanding jazz pianist Monty Alexander teamed with bassist Ray Brown and guitarist Herb Ellis in a live club setting. If you are familiar with these cast of characters, then you already know what kind of record this is. Stephane Grapelli-like violinist John Frigo plays on the last four tracks; whether that is a good thing or not depends on how much you like a violin in your jazz. Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing to dislike about this record. A groove-enhanced rendition of "High Heeled Sneakers" and a beautiful Alexander original "Renewal" are the highlights.Great musicians having a great deal of fun. You won't go wrong with this one. |
