4.0 out of 5 stars can't get much better than this!!
I am very in to Tommy Castro's music as well as Jimmy Hall's, but the Lloyd Jones tunes were a big surprise. I have seen these guys perform together with a different rhythm section and they always pleased the crowd. Double Trouble is at their best on this cd.
The Lloyd Jones opening cut has a rockabilly feel to it. Tommy is well, Tommy and he could sing the phone...

3.0 out of 5 stars 2003! Tommy Castro is back in a big way
Two solid discs from Tommy Castro. Although be aware that Triple Trouble is really a disc that features Tommy along with a few other players. I think calling it a Tommy CD is a bit of a stretch. I am happy with it but for my money his Gratitude CD is the better of the two releases for this year.
Of course I bought both and so should you!

The Lloyd Jones opening cut has a rockabilly feel to it. Tommy is well, Tommy and he could sing the phone book and make it sound soulful. Jimmy Hall's Midnight tune shows his raw power as one of the best out there today. Just wish he would hit the road more often. I love this cd, period.

4.0 out of 5 stars RICK SHAQ GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "CAN'T GET INTO TROUBLE WITH THIS PURCHASE!", March 1, 2007
This review is from: Triple Trouble (Audio CD)
The purchase of this CD was a pleasant surprise. Tommy Castro's name along with "DOUBLE TROUBLE'S" name, (Anything tying back to the legendary "STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN!) is what caught my eye. The title, though relating to Tommy Castro, Jimmy Hall, and Lloyd Jones, could just as easily related to the 3 types of music on the CD. There is equal part blues, R&B, and rock. This is an enjoyable CD, where you can tell the fella's had fun recording it, especially on #8 "Raised In The Country.

First rate CD. Don't look for this stuff on the radio...they don't get it. If I have to describe what makes this a good recording, you probably don't get it either.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great all around CD, June 7, 2005
This review is from: Triple Trouble (Audio CD)
This is my first exposure to Castro and Friends. After reading a review in Guitar Player on Tommy I went looking. When I found this CD that included Double Trouble I knew it was going to be good. It lives up to every expectation. A really good CD. I will be buying more of Tommy's stuff for certain.

This CD rocks. pfttt for psychoanalytical hooeey about "blue-eyed soul." The only reason that Tommy Castro and Jimmy Hall can play this music, aside from their complimentary musical expertise, is that they've lived it. You can't get these sounds playing in your basement. It comes from the blues life lived. My hat goes off to the finest musicians on this CD and to anyone smart enough to include this in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to listen too; Highly recommended, October 24, 2003

I've been a Castro fan for years and joining him up with Jimmy Hall and Lloyd Jones is a nice treat. You could tell these guy's were having loads of fun recording this one. Wouldn't it be nice to keep this group together and come up with some new stuff, maybe even tour. If blues, R&B, and soul are your thing, then get this one, crack open a cocktail, turn up the volume and enjoy.

3 great artists that take you back to the "old school" of rock and roll. A fine blend of rock, soul, blues, jazz, gospel, and country. You'll never hear it on the radio but you should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue-Eyed Soul is Alive & Well, September 9, 2003

Back in the "Day" it was Medley & Hatfield and everyone was saying "Who are these guys?" Fade to black... fade up 30 years later and it's Castro, Hall & Jones and everyone will be saying "Who are these guys?....Well Folks the long nap is over, so wake up, get on the good foot and smell Da Funk. Blue-Eyed Soul is back baby!

This CD, to coin a "Back in the Day" phrase is "Bitchin"! These Tres Amigos stir up an R&R & Soul Stew that is certain to bring Kudos to it's musical chefs. The main ingredients of Castro, Hall & Jones mixed with the rythem & spice of those Tres Hombres from Austin Texas, Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon & Reese Wynans bring new meaning to "Piece de Resistance".

When these guys holed up in some cold recording studio in Maine to lay down such gems as the James Brown classic "Good Good Lovin'" and B.B.'s "Be Careful With A Fool" their pure joy of playing together came shining through on every track. Wait til you hear Lloyd Jones turn out a bluesy version of Lennon & McCartney's "Help".

Each of these gifted musicians also gets to add some their own future classics to the brew like Jimmy Hall's "Midnight to Daylight" and Castro's "Whole Lotta Soul". When I heard the harmony on "Mammer Jammer" I could swear Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley had jumped into the mix.

The last track "Cold Funk" is your basic "Whatta We Do To Wrap Dis Mutha Up" Jam...Somebody was having way too much fun! All I can say is Everything Old Is New Again...and I Love It! I hope these guys take this show on the road..what a treat this would be "Live".
