Ancient and Medieval History of Tripoli, Lebanon,

This book contains a literary and photographic history of the ancient city of Tripoli, Lebanon. It is the last in a series of books written by Nina Jidejian about the history of the coastal cities of Lebanon. The focus of this book is on the ancient and medieval history of the city. The end of the book covers some parts of the Ottoman era, but there is virtually nothing after about 1800. Several hundred photos and line drawing accompany the text containing images of historic sites (such as the crusader castle of Saint-Gilles, various mosques and madrassahs, etc.) and a variety of pots, coins, funerary stele, etc. The text is certainly detailed, but not comprehensive, and the almost complete lack of information over the past two centuries really detracts from the book in my opinion. There is a detailed bibiliography contained at the end though, which I found useful in tracking down further details. Overall and interesting read, but probably not of interest to anyone with less than a hard-core interest in Tripoli or Lebanon.
