The INTERNET550U features a split-outlet design with 8 total AC outlets: 4 to provide battery backup support and surge protection for computers, monitors and other critical components; 4 to provide surge protection only for peripherals such as printers and scanners that do not need battery backup.

Reliable Battery Backup
UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The INTERNET550U features an internal battery that provides 3.5 min. of battery support for a full load (300 watts), 10 min. for a half-load (150 watts) or 17 min. for a basic desktop PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available when needed.
Surge Suppression
A sudden power surge or spike can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The INTERNET550U features built-in surge suppression to protect all connected components and the data they contain.
EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering
Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The INTERNET550U incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.
Data Line Protection

Used with Tripp Lite’s free PowerAlert software (available from Tripp Lite as a Web download), this USB port enables safe unattended system shutdown and file saves in the event of a prolonged power failure. The USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows®, Linux® and Mac OS® X.

I've learned after a bit of playing that YOU CAN TURN OFF THE ANNOYING BEEPING NOISE! Use the included strange USB thing to hook it up to your computer, then use the free PowerAlert software from Tripp Lite's website. Switch the software into Business mode, then go over to the Action section. In the list of actions is "Set Audible Alarm". Set the value to 1 (even if it's already 1, overwrite it), then execute the command. After a second or two, the program will unfreeze, and it will be completely silent when it loses power from then on!

Below 100V Output on Battery Power,

I measured the voltage output when running on battery and I got only 96 Volts on a unit with nothing more than a Linksys router and a Wireless Bridge plugged in. The Linksys router stopped working properly due to the low voltage and the Internet access was lost as a result (this was tested multiple times and was reproducible). I'd get the better OmniSmart series or try a different brand. I've ordered multiple units and none had above 100V output on battery. This is not acceptable.
