5.0 out of 5 stars YOU CAN TURN THE BEEPING OFF!
I've learned after a bit of playing that YOU CAN TURN OFF THE ANNOYING BEEPING NOISE! Use the included strange USB thing to hook it up to your computer, then use the free PowerAlert software from Tripp Lite's website. Switch the software into Business mode, then go over to the Action section. In the list of actions is "Set Audible Alarm". Set the value to 1 (even if it's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Below 100V Output on Battery Power
I measured the voltage output when running on battery and I got only 96 Volts on a unit with nothing more than a Linksys router and a Wireless Bridge plugged in. The Linksys router stopped working properly due to the low voltage and the Internet access was lost as a result (this was tested multiple times and was reproducible). I'd get the better OmniSmart series or try a...

After a second or two, the program will unfreeze, and it will be completely silent when it loses power from then on!

1.0 out of 5 stars Below 100V Output on Battery Power, January 24, 2011

I measured the voltage output when running on battery and I got only 96 Volts on a unit with nothing more than a Linksys router and a Wireless Bridge plugged in. The Linksys router stopped working properly due to the low voltage and the Internet access was lost as a result (this was tested multiple times and was reproducible). I'd get the better OmniSmart series or try a different brand. I've ordered multiple units and none had above 100V output on battery. This is not acceptable.

This is a good and inexpensive product to create the peace-of-mind that is needed when living on a rural electric system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, November 14, 2008

Installed in minutes, ran the self test and all's well. Other reviews indicated an odor from the unit, however my unit is odor free.
The software -Power Alert Console -(via USB cable) offers a complete and valuable description of its operation and condition.
Good product, good price. Would definitely recommend

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well, smells bad, December 10, 2010

This was purchased for my mother who is somewhat sensitive to smells and although it did work well (she had a power outage and a couple brownouts while it was connected and it protected her iMac), we ended up returning it as it had a fairly strong smell that didn't go away. It might be fine in an industrial setting or for someone with a limited sense of smell but if you have a sensitive nose you might consider another UPS

5.0 out of 5 stars iMac backup power, November 14, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Plugged my 24" iMac's power plug into the TrippLite power supply. Connected the power supply to the iMac using the included USB cable. The iMac recognized the power supply and I could use its built-in OS X software to configure how long the Mac should run off battery backup before shutting down. No other software to install. Also able to plugin my 500 GB G-Drive (external Time Machine drive) without exceeding the max power rating, although I bet it is close. Every once in a while I get a dialog box pop up saying that I was running off battery. Usually see this when I get home from work and wonder what would have happened without the battery backup. So far outages have not been long enough to test shutdown process. The manual says not to pull the plug out of the wall to test it. There is a test button instead. Someday I'll figure out which circuit breaker controls this outlet and shut it off to see what happens. I'm very happy with the power supply and glad that I bought it.

We've been running this UPS connected to one computer. It functioned fine for about a month. Then, we had a power outage and the UPS wouldn't turn back on when I had the computer plugged into the battery backed up slots. I did the self test from the directions, and it was telling me the outlet was overloaded for the battery. I removed everything from the unit and it still gave me the same fault. I had to plug into the regular, non-battery backed up outlets instead. I sent an email to Tripp lite's technical support about the issue. I received an email about 6 weeks later saying "Sorry we missed your email. Let us know if you're still having the problem." I later tried switching back to the battery backed up outlet and it was functioning again. I don't hold out much hope on this lasting in the long run. Overall, not impressed.

1.0 out of 5 stars BDOA -- brain dead on arrival, December 18, 2010

I ordered one of these because it was cheaper than the APC unit for approximately the same specs. Ugh, what a nightmare.
The unit was brain dead... sometimes it'd just randomly shut off, whether or not it came on when line power failed was a 50-50 proposition at best.
To top it off, there's no way to replace the battery without digging into the case, so unless you're feeling brave, this is a disposable product once the battery fails. (And they all fail eventually.)
I wouldn't recommend this product based on my experience.

No sooner had I connected this up than we had a power blackout. It kept my Dish DVR, 61" TV, Pre-amp/tuner + more on until I could start the generator. For my larger entertainment system (more power amps connected to pre-amp/tuner), I am buying one with a little higher VA rating. Overall, it did the job flawlessly.

The original one shipped to me didn't work (shut off after a minute). The replacement one didn't work either...it wouldn't even power on! What a piece of junk. Definitely the last time for me ordering anything with the Tripp Lite brand name on it.
