Finally!

After decades of research, trials, errors, marketing hype and outright advertising lies, I have found the answer to 60-cycle hum. This isolation transformer works perfectly.

As a professional guitarist, I have LONG known the grief and hassle caused by bad wiring in nightclubs, studios and my homes. I have tried EVERY CONCEIVABLE method for reducing hum and noise from my equipment: shielding, "noiseless" pickups, expensive amps, mixers, power-conditioners and egregiously-overpriced cables. NONE of those things worked.

Luckily, My wife is an electronic engineer. She suggested that the little "hum-x" I got from Ebtech was simply too small to do any meaningful isolation. I looked high and low, then found this Trip-Lite brand here on Amazon. The price was right so I ordered it, knowing Amazon's return policy is fair in case it didn't work.

It arrived today. I plugged in it to the wall, then plugged my noisiest, cheapest guitar amp into the back of the transformer.

At first, I though I must have hooked it up wrong, because there was absolutely ZERO hum. I checked the cables. Nope. Everything was right. I plugged in a guitar. Nothing. No noise. No hum.

Then I turned the guitar up full. Still no noise. When I strummed a chord, it startled the daylights out of me. The guitar was up full, the amp was up full. Still ABSOLUTELY ZERO HUM.

I have been searching for an answer to this pernicious ubiquitous problem for over 40 years.
This thing is worth it's weight in gold to me now. I lost two expensive pieces of gear just last month: one Kurzweil keyboard and a Mackie mixer, when the poor wiring in a local nightclub fried them.

This may turn out to be the best insurance policy on delicate equipment I have ever gotten. It certainly is the answer to my 60-cycle hum. The power here in my basement is the absolute worst, so it makes a fabulous proving ground ( get it? proving "ground") for this device.

THANK YOU TRIP-LITE!

If you have ANY sensitive electronic equipment, especially digital audio stuff, INVEST in one of these things.
Unlike all the Monster cable BS, Hum-eliminators, conditioners etc.
THIS THING REALLY WORKS!

Great if you want to eliminate a nasty ground loop (60 Hz buzz in your audio system) or isolate some test equipment. Appears to be well made. It is very heavy -- so buying online I'm sure includes the high cost of shipping (either directly or indirectly in the price). Price-wise it may be better if you cand find it at a local electronics supplier or audio store.

I've found this iso to be a good value for my lab bench, when restoring antique radios. Price was right and it's preventing me from being electrocuted.

My DSL modem connection would always abort and hang, and require a complete reboot whenever my treadmill was used in running mode. Very annoying and time consuming to have to reset after exercising, plus the family was out of luck in using the internet during that time. Read on an internet search that an isolation transformer inserted where the treadmill was plugged in may help. This one does the trick. It tripped off when I raised or lowered the treadmill while runing above 4 MPH. But the DSL kept running smoothly. The extra juice required must have upset the electrical connection for the DSL modem, even though they are on different circuits on different floors. The DSL is evidently very sensitive to fluctuations in current. So now I know I can't raise/lower while running in higher speeds, but if I do forget, this baby will catch it and trip itself off. I'd rather restart the treadmill than have to reset the DSL modem each time. Very nice! PS It did arrive in black.

The tripp-lite isolation transformer that I received was actually black, not white as pictured. The product worked very well in suppressing spikes that were locking up our equipment. The "feet" of the transformer has hole features that allow you to mount the transformer onto screws protruding from a wall / backing board; so this is useful in the data/telephone room.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for musicians, July 4, 2011

I just received this item and put it through it's paces, and this is worth it's weight in gold.

i moved into a condo that has dirty power. it wasn't a big deal until i bought a mesa boogie amp. this amp is extremely sensitive, and when playing at home has a horrible hum/ buzz that makes recording impossible, and home play less than tolerable. i have furmans and ebtechs in line with this thing, and they only take the edge off of the hum. nothing against those brands, as they work well other places, just not in my place.

an electrical engineer/ musician at work told me about these, so i figured i'd give it a shot. IT WORKS. it took some nasty dirty electricity, cleaned it up and made it quiet as a mouse. i couldn't believe it. i can play at home without getting mad, and i can record with it.

this little baby will go to every gig with me to keep my amp sounding pure. i highly recommend it to any musician that has issues with dirty power.

I bought this box after a bit of desperation when my new home even after rewiring and a new grounding rod was simply noisy. After driving a few electricians mad, I got this box and my guitar amps were silenced. It's a remarkable difference. I can't say enough good things about this device. If you're a musician or a music lover who has power issues at home, this is the box to get.

I purchased this solely because of the reviews here about the fact that this piece of equipment had the power to totally take away AC line hum which is inherent to a guitar amp by a nature. (I have never heard a real amp that didnt buzz) SO with that said I had very high hopes for this product. Then I got it...At first I believed there was something wrong with the outlet I was on because this thing made ZERO effect on ac hum. I tried two different amps. A Marshall 8100 head to a Ampeg 4x12 cabinet and a Crate GX-15 practice amp. And ran them dry and pure. Just a Washburn guitar with an emg-85/81 pickup set ran directlt into the amp and the amp plugged into this box for AC power. I also tried several other outlets at my studio. YET nothing. As a guitarist yeah I have bought some worthless 100 boxes before and this is one of them lol. But wait didn't the reviews say it would eliminate the hum in night clubs or motels or just anywhere u took an amp? Hey I dunno if those are shill reviews or what but I just know WHAT AMAZON SENT ME does not work. In fact, if I didnt know better I would swear they put something in this box to weigh it down (its heavy) and make it heavy and seem authentic when it in fact it does nothing at all lol. But lets be fair here. This device is NOT marketed as a piece of music gear and no doubt serves an industrial purpose like the guy who said it helps him work on radios and not get shocked. But for music you would be better off putting your money toward the ISP Decimator (albeit expensive) that really WILL quiet the heck out of a guitar setup and I know cause I own one. Its not perfect hence I am here but I would bet ISP eliminates 96 percent of your noise. But hey it should for 400 dollars right? lol I guess you get what you pay for but when a 100 dollar box cant do one simple simple thing you bought it for and that is to eliminate hum (the 4 percent my ISP doesnt remove) then I hate to say it but it was boxed up and returned within the first hour I received it. VERY disappointing, I had high hopes for this device for that purpose. I guess there really is nothing you can do. At the end of the day 4 percent is not bad but it IS a stain on perfection and that makes 4 percent as bad as 40 percent honestly.
