Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Tripp Lite's LC1800 Line Conditioner keep your equipment working through brownouts without using emergency power such as UPS systems and auxiliary generators. It automatically adjusts under- and overvoltages to provide safe, computer-grade AC power meeting ANSI C84.1 specifications. Additionally, because printers have a high current draw and a tendency to cause localized brownouts, Hewlett-Packard® recommends the use of a line conditioner with their laser printers. Surges, spikes and EMI/RFI line noise wear down sensitive circuitry and can cause premature aging or total failure of your equipment. The LC1800 exceeds the IEEE-587 standard for surge suppression (both categories A and B). It features the widest voltage correction range of any comparable units. Using multiple levels of voltage correction, the LC1800 automatically adjust under- and overvoltages to keep you working through brownouts and prolonged overvoltage conditions. The LC1800 also protects your valuable equipment with built-in premium surge suppression.

Versatile Protection for Sensitive Electronics

The LC1800 provides comprehensive protection and performance enhancement for computers, A/V components and all electronics. It features built-in automatic voltage regulation to protect sensitive equipment from the harmful effects of brownouts and overvoltages, plus a 1440-joule surge suppression rating to protect against catastrophic surge damage. The LC1800 also filters out disruptive line noise that can cause performance problems and corrupt or erase data. With its 1800-watt output rating and six outlets, the LC1800 provides ample capacity for multiple items of connected equipment.

Advanced Automatic Voltage Regulation

To protect connected equipment from the harmful effects of voltage fluctuations, the LC1800 features built-in automatic voltage regulation (AVR) with three levels of voltage stabilization to provide a targeted response to overvoltages, undervoltages and severe brownouts. The LC1800 can correct brownouts as low as 87V and overvoltages up to 140V back to safe, nominal 120V power. AVR protection prevents equipment damage, data loss and power-related performance problems.

EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering

Various electromagnetic and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This EMI/RFI line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The LC1800 incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment or corrupting data.

Powerful AC Line Surge Suppression

The LC1800 provides 1440 joules of surge suppression to prevent even the strongest surges from damaging your valuable electronics. Includes full normal mode (H-N) and common mode (N-G/H-G) line surge suppression.

Built-In Diagnostic Capability

Seven diagnostic LEDs provide complete power status information: AC power (green = NORM), incoming voltage level (2 x yellow = HIGH/LOW, 2 x red = VERY HIGH/VERY LOW) and AC line status (green = LINE OK, red = LINE FAULT). An On/Off switch located on the rear of the unit provides one-touch power control over all components.

Compact Design

The LC1800's compact cabinet (less than eight inches in height) and 6-ft. cord make it easy to integrate into a wide range of applications: a desktop computer setup, a home theater setup, a lab bench and more. Six AC outlets provide ample capacity for connected equipment.

Ultimate Peace of Mind

The LC1800 comes with $25,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance—guaranteed lifetime protection for your equipment in case of surge damage, including direct lightning strikes. And it's simple: Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage begins the moment you purchase the LC1800, with no forms to fill out or send in. Additionally, this Tripp Lite Line Conditioner is backed by a 2-year warranty.

4.0 out of 5 stars One caveat, May 9, 2007
This review is from: Tripp Lite LC1800 1800W Line Conditioner w/ Isobar Protection 6 outlets 120V (Electronics)
We have used LC-1800s since the early 1990's and have only one complaint: if one of the mechanical relays that maintain the 110-120 VAC output fails, the associated indicator light on the front of the unit will still function as usual, and the user will thus not be aware of the failure. The result is that the equipment connected to the LC-1800 will be subjected to brown-out or over-voltage conditions.

The only way we have found to monitor the proper operation of the relays is to periodically plug our LC-1800s into a 140 VAC autotransformer, attach a VOM to one of the output duplexes, and slowly turn the autotransformer voltage down from 140 to 87, watching the VOM to see that the relays engage the various secondaries on the LC-1800's transformer and thus keep the output voltage in the 110-120 VAC range.

Before we began this monitoring, the main power switch on two different LC-1800s failed due to overheating. On each unit, one of the internal relays had failed, allowing low input voltage to flow through to the load and create an over-amperage draw that exceeded the rating on the power switches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexplained Computer Problems Disappear, February 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Tripp Lite LC1800 1800W Line Conditioner w/ Isobar Protection 6 outlets 120V (Electronics)
Clean, regulated power is important for a computers, stereos, and high end video equipment. Surge protectors and UPS units do not clean the power well, they simply clip surges and spikes. High end surge protectors units filter some harmonics (harmonics are usually introduced by motors, furnaces, Air Conditioners, freezers, etc).

A Line Conditioner corrects for high and low voltage, and cleans the voltage.

I own a few LC1800s to solve pesky problems.

A friend's computer, which was connected to a UPS, would turn off after 6 to 48 hours. The computer did not have this problem when it was at a different location. I took the computer and ran stress tests for four days with no problems. He took it home and it turned off within two days. I loaned him home an LC1800 and he has not had a problem in two weeks.

A computer at The Ohio State University failed every six months. We added an LC1800 and the computer ran continuously for more than three years with no problems.

I have a dedicated line from my breaker box to my computer and I still use an LC1800, which feeds my UPS. I rarely turn off or reboot my computer (unlike Windows, you can update a Linux computer without a reboot). I use one just to be safe. I still use my first LC1800 from more than ten years ago.

Although most people, including myself, probably do not require this level of power protection, it is safer. If you experiences difficult to explain behavior, be certain to try one of these units.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beware of annoying hum, February 17, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tripp Lite LC1800 1800W Line Conditioner w/ Isobar Protection 6 outlets 120V (Electronics)
I assume this model does the job it is intended to do, but when I hooked it up to my desktop computer and peripherals, I found it also emits a hum that is annoying (to me, at any rate) and is louder than the fan noise from my computer. I was informed by a company rep that this hum is normal. It's unacceptable to me, so I returned the unit.
