4.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice and works well but...
I purchased this UPS as a backup for my CPAP machine. It's very capable of doing the job. The LCD, and information it provides is very helpful, and appears to be accurate. You can't beat the feature set on this UPS for the price. My only real complaint is with the smell of the plastic. It will fill the room with an awful stink when this thing warms up. 1.0 out of 5 stars Watch Out !!! early deaths & no warranty
See the reviews for the 1000W unit. These have a nasty tendency to die early. Failure mode is intermittent shut-off. Just exactly what you're trying to prevent. I have two of them, and one just decided to switch itself off whenever it felt like it. The factory offered me a 20% discount to buy another one. NO repair option - - these are throwaway units.

You can't beat the feature set on this UPS for the price. My only real complaint is with the smell of the plastic. It will fill the room with an awful stink when this thing warms up. I'm guessing it will go away as the unit breaks in, but really shouldn't be there to begin with. I have noticed that many of the products that come from China these days have a problem with stinky plastic.

Impressed with the product.Seems as capable as the 1000VA model UPS, at significantly less cost when I purchased it (30%) cheaper.Has 4 power backup outlets and 4 surge protection outlets.AC voltage large numeral LCD display useful in monitoring just how instable and fluctuating AC power can be depending on where you live.Backup power tripped once, worked as advertised.A RECOMMENDED investment if you have lots of expensive Home Entertainment gear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice UPS, LCD is simplistic, February 5, 2010

This review is from: Tripp Lite OMNI900LCD Digital LCD 900VA Line-Interactive UPS (8 Outlets) (Electronics)
After a power outage, I decided to place UPS's on both of my HDTV Systems. In my main room, I purchased the APC BX1500G unit(1500VA Battery Backup with LCD), which also has a LCD screen. It is rather large, but the screen is fantastic, showing wattage consumed on the battery outlet plugs, and minutes of backup.

For the other TV, I didn't need one nearly as large (not as much equipment), and I wanted one that was more compact that would fit in the shelving. This one (TrippLite Omni900LCD) fit those needs perfectly. It is an attractive unit, and unlike the APC, the unit can be placed horizontal as well as vertical, and the screen can be repositioned so it is logical for the positioning. All Great. Also the size for a 900VA unit is even smaller than I had hoped, it fit very well in the cabinet. The heat generated is negligible, and that is in the back of a wood cabinet, it is airy, but still somewhat confined.

However, the one drawback is the LCD screen. The info on the screen is too simple! It will read overload, replace battery, on battery, and input voltage - but that's it. After the APC I was wanting another unit to tell me the output wattage and percent of capacity, so I could know how close to the threshold I was getting (always a mystery on older UPSs)- Tripplite went part of the way, but they didn't get all the way there. I know from having similar (but less) equipment on the other system that I could plug just about everything in (DVR, 47" LED TV, Wii, Blu-Ray), but if you don't have some way to measure your wattage, you won't know how close you are really getting. Also, unlike the APC, you get no reading of how long your load could go on battery. (NOTE: Whatever it reads for possible battery life, if you are actually running your TV or your Computer CPU, you won't have that much time 10-15 minutes is good for any UPS in that case). Finally, the other drawback is that the LCD screen is always on from what I can tell. You can dim it, but this is a piece of equipment which should only show you it's screen as necessary - and for the preservation of long life should keep it turned off otherwise.

I do recommend this unit, with the caveats above. I think it is a little overpriced since the LCD doesn't provide full info, but the size and ability to change orientation is fastastic.

See the reviews for the 1000W unit. These have a nasty tendency to die early. Failure mode is intermittent shut-off. Just exactly what you're trying to prevent. I can understand a battery going out or a circuit failing, but an intermittent shutdown is not acceptable, nor is the no-warranty, no-repair, thank you sir I'll have another attitude. TrippLite has lost my business.

UPDATE: my second unit has now failed, making for 100% failure rate within 2 years. Failure symptom is the same - it just shuts itself off without warning. Both of the units I bought are completely useless, totally defeating the purpose of a UPS. I could understand the failure mode being less and less battery life during backup - - but this total shutdown is totally unacceptable.

I purchased this model because I have had good luck with Tripp Lite products and needed a 900VA or greater UPS for a particular task. The unit arrived as expected and has worked flawlessly.

- 4 powered ports

- 4 non-powered (surge protection only)

There is not as much room for plugs as there would be in the models that lay flat with the plugs on top, though this wasn't an issue for my application.

The backlit display seems... well, pointless. I purchased the unit despite the display, not because of it. Noone really needs to see the input voltage on a device like this. There is a dimmer switch next to the display so you can make it as dim or bright as you like - or turn the backlight completely off.

It is a little more visually appealing than the typical computer UPS, which I expect is the point of this model. I would purchase this model again if/when the need arises because it has proven reliable and is cheaper than comparable models from companies such as APC.

Needed a UPS to protect my Dish receiver and my DLP TV from short glitches, of which we have many here in Texas in the spring. Also, the Dish receiver designers are apparently so good that the unit has no way to cycle power except by unplugging--not good when software locks up. The UPS gives me a way to cycle power without digging around in the cabinet.

The rotatable panel is very cool and allowed me to mount the unit horizontally. Plugs are spaced nicely, allowing huge warts to be plugged in without obstructing other plugs. Note that this has a larger than normal plug on its cord, so you may have trouble running it through a normal sized cable hole like I did--I had to enlarge the hole in the cabinet. I can get about 8 minutes running the Dish player and a 72" DLP TV before the unit hits 1/4 charge, more than enough time to shut off the TV and allow the thermal cooling cycle to complete.

The only negative is that this emits a strong plasticy odor. Very strong, and it's lasted a couple of weeks, though it's diminishing. God only knows what VOCs are being emitted.

This product is simple to use, ready out of the box. I do not use any of the managment features, but have been pleased with the surge protection and UPS features.

1.0 out of 5 stars Died early!, July 1, 2011
This review is from: Tripp Lite OMNI900LCD Digital LCD 900VA Line-Interactive UPS (8 Outlets) (Electronics)
Mine just died 2 minutes ago, thought i'd let potential customers know this doesn't last long. A little over 2 years old and the little replace battery sign came on along with an annoying beep. Now I have to hope we don't loose power until I buy a replacement. Don't know about the warranty but shipping this is going to not make it worth it. I will buy another brand. I bought this one because the Monster Cable one got bad reviews.
