I bought this cable together with a 750GB harddrive for expanding my DirecTV's HD DVR. According to forum search on internet, the HD DVR will accept external HHD connected via ESATA cable, and only works with ESATA cable. I bought the two said items both from Amazon (Amazon, LLC). Amazon advertised this as ESATA cable.

In reality, when the item arrived, both the flex-film package as well as the markings on the cable says SATA; nothing on the package/product was labelled ESATA. Sure enough, when connected, the DVR did not recognize the external HDD. I then bought a ESATA cable from local BestBuy just to prove/dis-prove this -- and sure enough, with the ESATA calbe from local store, the DVR recognizes the external HDD.

Bottomline: This item is advertised by Amazon as ESATA, but it is not ESATA. I'm gonna try and return this item. If Amazon reimburse in full, including shipping, I'll change my rating to neutral. But as of now, I feel cheated (and have evidence to prove I got cheated) by Amazon.

this was my first eSATA purchase. I had read reviews of many brands, some which are too stiff and unplug from computer port. I had read other reviews of other tripp lite cables and took a chance on the eSATA cable. It is a great cable! Well worth the money. It stays in the port just fine, and there were no problems getting it to work. ( I connected it to my external hard drive, a Western Digital My Book Home Edition). If your looking for a good eSATA cable, get this one. Its 36" long, enough to go from PC to desk beside monitor.

I used this cable to connect my external hard drive to my desktop computer for fast data transfer. No issues at all with the installation and the speed matched specs - Just what I was looking for with this eSATA cable. Recommended.

First, let me quickly say that these are top-notch eSATA cables. The shielding is great, and the connectors are well-built and built to the eSATA spec (unlike many cables you might find on-line, some of which aren't built to precise spec and therefore will give you problems with your devices). I found this specific cable after reading troubleshooting threads in an AV forum -- people had problems with their eSATA cables; they weren't connecting well, and their devices weren't being recognized. Then someone recommended these Tripp Lites and everyone had excellent results. If you get stuck with eSATA cables that don't work, you have two options: (1) try to trim the connector end black rubber a little so that there is more connector length to slide into the input. (2) Buy a connector that is built precisely to spec, such as these.

Second, I don't know what kind of herb is being smoked by those reviewers stating that these aren't eSATA cables. I suppose it's possible that they are confused by the fact that the packaging itself does not use the word "eSATA" explicitly... but, let me assure you that if you receive the pictured cables you ARE receiving eSATA cables. FYI, check out the product image of this product: Tripp Lite P952-003 eSATA to SATA Signal Cable, 7P-M/7P-M - 3ft if you want to see the difference between a SATA and an eSATA connector. The SATA is on the left and the eSATA is on the right.

This cable is not eSATA!! The description says:

"any high speed eSATA drive"

but it is not eSATA, it is SATA. This will not work on your eSATA drives/connections.

I have sent back to Amazon for a refund as this listing is not accurate/false advertising.

quick transaction, had the item two days after ordering it. Nice packaging and labeling. Quality product.

It was short and expensive for me but works ok... I'm very disappointed with Segate and Addonics
