Ideal for Protection for Home or Office PCs and Home Theater

Featuring reliable battery backup, automatic voltage regulation, surge suppression, line noise filtering, USB communication port, plus tel/DSL and coaxial line surge protection, the SMART1000LCD offers a complete power protection solution for PCs, A/V components and all home and office electronics. The SMART1000LCD features a split-outlet design with 8 total AC outlets: 4 to provide battery backup support and surge protection for computers, monitors and other critical components; 4 to provide surge protection only for peripherals such as printers and scanners that do not need battery backup.

Reliable Battery Backup

UPS battery backup support enables you to work through short power failures, and provides time to save files and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The SMART1000LCD features a large internal battery that provides 3 min. of battery support for a full load (500 watts), 10 min. for a half-load (250 watts) or 60 min. for a single PC. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available if needed.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)

AVR protects your equipment from incremental hardware damage, data loss and performance problems that can be caused by low-voltage conditions, commonly known as brownouts. The SMART1000LCD can correct brownouts as low as 89V back to 120V without drawing on battery backup power that may be needed to support your equipment during a blackout.

Rotatable LCD Status Screen

The SMART1000LCD features a large illuminated LCD screen with dimmer switch that alerts you to potential power problems. This screen shows input voltage, 5-bar battery charge level, overload, AVR, on battery and replace battery status at a glance. It can be rotated for easy viewing in both horizontal and vertical UPS installations.

AC Line, Coaxial and Tel/DSL Surge Suppression

A sudden power surge or spike on an AC, phone or network line can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The SMART1000LCD features a 480-joule surge suppression rating to protect connected components and data from the harmful effects of power surges. One set of tel/DSL (RJ11) jacks with included cable to protect a standard dialup/DSL phone connection, and one set of coaxial jacks to protect CATV, satellite or broadcast antenna connections.

EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering

Various electrical and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The SMART1000LCD incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.

The USB port also enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows® and Mac OS® X.

We are using this unit more and more in the field. I have one on my desk and one for my rack of networking and satellite equipment at the house. The battery display is great when the power is out. Imagine this, I was able to goto the website for my power company to get their phone number when the power went out last time.

As for the previous reviews, here's a couple things to consider. Like most ups, half of the outlets are surge and battery backup, the other half are just surge protection. Now the surge protection only side is great for things like speakers and printers, but if you plug your computer into the wrong side, you won't get the battery backup feature. APC actually started putting big yellow stickers on their UPS because of this.

And the power and heat. Yeah, it gets hot, when it's charging. It's warm when its fully charged.. But it doesn't continously pull 1A of power. I'm sure it does when it's charging, but my fully charged unit only pulls 5 to 20w of power or 50 to 160 Milliamps of power (.05A - .16A). Checked it myself with my power meter.

In all, this is a great unit and for 1000VA, it's a good deal.

This UPS is more than adequate for my needs. Like other reviewers here, I was annoyed at the audible alarm when power was lost in the middle of the night. Here is how to turn off the alarm. Works for Windows and *nix.

Download and run the PowerAlert software from tripp-lite. Under the Settings>>Schemes section change it to Business Device Management System. On the Action section, select the Set Audible Alarm task. In the Parameters below change the Value to 3. Then click Execute Command.

No more alarm and a UPS with a cool blue LCD that provides battery backup for my computer, router, cable modem, and VOIP gizmo.

In answer to one review below, a log of power events etc. is available in the Business Device of the software mode in the logs section.

Best UPS I have Owned June 19, 2006
I have owned APC, Conxet which is the same company and many othere but none have come close to the features that this line that Tripplite has come out with. It has a very decent backup time but its real strengths are it's power conditioning I.E. clean sine wave which the inverter does not even require the battery unless the voltage drops below around 80VAC. Basically the inverter supplies a clean power source all the time weather using the wall outlet or the 12V battery. And the LCD has all the information you would need including a nice power loss mute button and the special part is the clean interface with a USB hookup on Windows XP. It gives you shutdown battery level settings along with anything you could possibly want and you don't even have to download their software is works that cleanly with XP Pro. The interface with the Computer is the best I have seen even on high end server systems. Only one thing to watch out for is make sure the unit has space for ventilitation around it as it is a heat machine because it runs off the inverter all the time to give you a clean 60HZ Sinewave no matter what you stick in the plug. Best buy. 3 Units to choose from all with the same interface. 900VA 475Watt, 1000VA 500Watt, 1200VA 700Watt your choice all under $200. Pete
