4.0 out of 5 stars Best of the cheap surge protectors
Basically it's the best mov surge protector for a laptop. mov's are little disks in the surge protector that litterally pop when a surge spike happens. If you can handle the small weight difference the white isoblok 2-0 is better. It is a lower joule rating but offers a 0 sec. clamp time and lower voltage threshold. A spike only lasts around 1ns and a surge 3 ns. This...

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor retractable plug lock mechanism
This traveler surge suppressor has a retractable plug to connect to an outlet. The mechanism that locks the plug out is extremely hard to activate and it is impossible to push the plug into an outlet without it being locked. Otherwise, the device appears to be as advertised.

This adapter is ok at under 1ns. It is at 150 volts though and the isoblock is at 140 volts. Remember that not all power out of a socket is at 120 volts (110 in Japan). Either way you would need a new adapter every year just to be safe as the mov's are only worth 1 spike. Its far cheaper than buying a new laptop.

I love this product. Unfortunately, I blew mine up in West Africa (my computer was not damaged), so when I returned I ordered another right away. I wish that it were a little thinner, but I suppose you can't have everything....at least right now!

The product doesn't have any voltage compatability ratings on the product itself or accompanying literature that I could find. On the web site, however, it shows the voltage compatability at 120 VAC. The product should therefore not be used overseas in countries where the voltage is 220 VAC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tripp Lite Traveler 2-Outlet Surge Suppressor, April 2, 2007

I am an independent consultant and am always working on my laptop. For the last few months I have been working in an older building which every now and then has power surges. So far, this small surge suppressor has worked great. It is small enough to stick in a pocket of my carrying case and it has space for 2 plugs to be used at the same time. The electrical prongs slide into the device so there is no risk that they will break off in transport. A light comes on to let you know the device is working. My only complaint is that the button you press to have the prongs retract seems to be a little flimsy. So far, that has not been a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never leave home without it...., January 9, 2007

A surge suppressor should be in every laptop travel bag, and this compact unit travels well, taking up very little space. However, for those traveling outside the USA, it should be noted that this unit does NOT convert electricity! My colleague forgot this tidbit and fried his Tripp Lite Traveler while overseas. On the plus side, now we know it really works.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not solidly built, January 17, 2012

While it works as described, the male 3 prong plug is collapsable (at the wrong time). Try plugging in to a tight outlet and it collapses immeadiately. Additionally, when a device is plugged in, the footprint is a bit bulky. Spend a bit more for something a little more solid designed and built.

this is the second one i have purchased. perfect for a laptop as it beats having to deal with a full-size surge protector.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for tight spaces, January 19, 2011

I bought this surge suppressor/protector for my new high end front load washing machine (black Friday sale). I buy a new surge protector every 5 years or when I buy new electronic equipment or appliances with digital controllers. (Nearly all surge protectors/suppressors need replacing every 5 years because the parts that do the "protecting" WEAR OUT!)

On a standard surge protector the outlets are on the back, but this set up doesn't work for our new washer, its so tall the it comes up to the outlet height, and the cord plug plugged into a standard surge suppressor would interfere with the back of the washer and make the washer stick out into the laundry room.

Though this is supposed to be a "travel" suppressor, its installed in a "stationary application". Its narrow profile plugs into the wall and clears the back of the washer and because the cord from the washer plugs into the side! No cord plug binding up behind the washer!

Our new washer has digital controls that is why I installed a surge suppressor/protector. Its cheap "insurance". I purchased an extended warranty with the washer, but in many extended warranties "line surges" from thunderstorms are considered "acts of God", or not covered, unless you have a surge protector at the outlet or a professional one installed at the fuse/breaker box.

I have an old surge protector that needs to be replaced on our dishwasher which has an electronic push button control panel. I am will be ordering a second one of these surge protectors for my dishwasher! And it will get the cord from sticking out and hitting the cleaner bottles under the kitchen sink!

Here's hoping you never need a surge suppressor, but if you do then this one is great for travelling being compact and collapsable and still offering a reasonable level of protection.
