5.0 out of 5 stars DF: More like Leapt Into Divine!
I heard the song Leaving Town back in 2000, and instantly hooked to Dexter Freebish. I soon purchased the CD Life of Saturdays and was instantly taken in by every track. Such a varied sound to each... but yet such fluidity to the album as a whole. The years passed, and I wondered if I'd ever again hear from Dexter Freebish, or if LOS was their one and only hurrah. Then in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Dexter Freebish Return With A Powerful Sophomore Attempt
Remember Dexter Freebish? No? Remember the song, ?Leaving Town?? Sure you do. Well, the boys from Austin, TX are back after four years of albumless obscurity. How do they fare? Quite well, actually. From the rocking opening track of ?Prozak? to the final farewell of ?Breakdown?, Dexter Freebish makes it obvious that they?ve grown, musically, in the last four years. While...

Then in 2004 along comes Tripped into Divine. From the moment i heard the first single, I believed this would top LOS, and I was right. From start to finish, this is a definitive rock album.

Prozak - Killer hook. Great tune. The perfect catchy and melodic song for a first single.

Pretty People - Unique style to the song. Not the strongest lyrics on the album, but a very upbeat tune with a message.

Ghosts (Voices in my Head) - One of my personal favorites. The chorus and bridge are great, and Kyle sings really well on this song, showing off his range.

How Do I Get Through to You - This album's rock ballad... much like Wonderland, only even more passionate and effective. One of the album's three strongest tracks.

Heavy - Deep meaningful lyrics. Definitely 'heavy'!

Save Me - A decent song, but not the best on the album. Lyrically skim.

What I Need - This song kicks off with an awesome intro, and stays strong throughout. Great lyrics and a rockin riff.

Wild Things - Funky, upbeat sounding song. It stand out on the album much like the song Life of Saturdays did on the first album.

Breathe - A uplifting song with a really good tune.

No One Knows - The album's hardest rocker from start to finish. Kyle sings this song with a very convincing bitterness and downtroddeness

Twilight - The albums best track... period. Killer tune, awesome lyrics, wonderful singing by Kyle. Unbelievable song and such a standout.

Breakdown - A moody, great way to close off the album. Emotional and catchy tune.

This album is a must buy for any fan of rock and alternative music. Hopefully it will be the album which slips DF to the head of the pack, and helps people see how great of a band they really are.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've Done It Again...even better the 2nd time around!, January 23, 2004

I loved DF's first CD, "A Life of Saturdays" but this one blows it out of the water!! The three years between albums gave this band a chance to mature in their songwriting - more complex lyrics...great sounds...and thoughtful melodies.

I also like that this album has a more "real" sound to it -- it sounds less overproduced than the first one.

It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite song on the album but the lead track and first single, "Prozak", is definitely one that stays in your head.

this cd is exceptionally great! every song is better than the next and you can't stop listening to it!!!! if you thought A Life of Saturdays was good, youre in for at treat! theres fast paced songs, such as "no one knows" that really rocks out and then theres the slower more melodic songs like "how do i get through to you". DF's sound is unlike any other..but if you like bands such as Sister Hazel, Maroon 5, Gavin DeGraw (all band's theyve toured with) then youre sure to LOVE this cd! YOU MUST GIVE THIS A LISTEN! TELL A FRIEND! then they'll tell a friend....and they'll tell a friend....

This CD is great. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Every song is lovable. Dexter Freebish is a band that needs exposure and they'll be great. If you like the CD then you have to see them live. They are amazing in concert. Check out A LIFE OF SATURDAYS too. Get both CDs, put them in your CD player, crank it, and ENJOY!

Don't let the first few songs fool you. This is a great album, and like most great albums you have to sift past the flashy. Much like Tattoo You is not defined by Start Me Up, this album is not defined by Prozak.

Start the album on Track 4 and let it roll. Everything flows out in Kyle's voice, who proves that good voices are better than loud voices. Listen also for the subtle and smooth guitar riffs, and tight drums galore.

This album tripped into my heart. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly DIVINE album from Dexter Freebish!, February 18, 2004

I've been a fan of Dexter Freebish for years now and have been long awaiting this album...and it was well worth the wait! "Tripped Into Divine" is addictive. Don't be surprised if you put it in your cd player and never see it again! :) It's been almost a month since it's release and I've been listening to it constantly. This cd has something for everyone in it. If you like face-paced, toe-tapping music, "Prozak" and "Pretty People" are just the songs for you. Or maybe you like slower music with feeling? Then "How do I get through to you" and "What I Need" are excellent choices. You will not be disappointed by this follow up album from one of the greatest bands out there right now. If you loved the popular "Leaving Town" single or "My Madonna" from their previous album, "A Life of Saturdays", you are sure to love "Triped into Divine"! And while you're at it, go see a live show...you'll fall for them too!

5.0 out of 5 stars How Divine this CD is!!!, February 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Tripped Into Divine (Audio CD)
Perhaps I'm a bit biased; I have been a fan of Dexter Freebish since "Leaving Town" debuted on the radio nearly 5 years ago. A lot of artists tend to fall into a "sophomore slump", but luckily, DF continues to stay strong. In my opinion, this CD is both lyrically and musically superior to the band's major debut, "A Life of Saturdays". The band continues to experiment with different sounds while still putting out all around good solid music, and Kyle's vocals are amazing as always. The only thing that I would mention, not as a complaint or anything, is that since the entire sound is more complex, you may not get completely hooked on everythign with the first listen. However, if you spin the CD a few times you will be exponentially grabbed by all of the songs. Here's a brief description of each track:

1) Prozak: Upbeat, fun, and catchy, this uptempo rocker is definitely mainstream radio material that doesn't fall into the misfortune of overproduction. A stout track on the album, and probably the first that you will have stuck in your head. It also won Dexter Freebish their second award in winning the John Lennon Songwriting Competition.

2) Pretty People: This upbeat song is definitely a treat for anyone who has ever seen DF play live in the past. They always did it in their shows and the crowd went nuts! It's nice to finally have a recording of it. This song is also catchy, and one of tyhe more lyrically simplistic songs on the CD. However, I think it is supposed to be that way for a reason.

3) Ghosts: Again, fun uptempo song that's great to rock out to. It's also catchy with a good hook. Kyle sounds really good singing this song

4) How Do I Get Through to You: Ahhh! A Dexter Freebish ballad (they've always done really good ballads). I was not hooked on it instantly because the melody is not as predictable as most ballads out there, but it is sung so well and full of emotion,so I still loved it! It took a 2nd time listening to become familiar enough to get it in my head. overall, awesome track.

5) Heavy: My least favorite on the album, but I still think it's a good song worth listening to. It's midtempo and, like "How Do I Get Through", full of emotion. It has somewhat of a "heavy" feel to it as well, so the title is well-suited.

6) Save Me: I love this song! I really like the guitar licks in the first verse, and the chord progression and melody throughout the song. The lyrics are good too; it seems to be a more spiritual, soul-searching song (but I guess it depends on how you interpret it).

7) What I Need: Like "Save me", this song doesn't seem to be about love so much as the starter tracks on the album; being a Christian, I almost see it as the song talking about God which I think is really cool (however, it's left ambiguous so the lyrics could also be about a significant other). I like the guitar at the beginning, and the song will definitely grow on you; it's midtempo and not too heavy.

8) Wild Things: Very catchy, and the lyrics make a very good point. It's a midtempo, easygoing song with good hooks in both the verses and the chorus. The guitar on the song is a lot more of a distorted sound than on a lot of the other tracks, which have a more "clean" sound.

9) Breathe: This song is unique in that the very beginning it has sort of a Middle Eastern feel to it, but it fits well with the song. The chorus is catchy and very positive and uplifting sounding, and the lyrics fall into the whole "don't sweat the small stuff" theme. I liked it also because the verses really didn't allude to what I expected the chorus to sound like on first listen.

10) No One Knows: This is the hardest song on the album, and it's full of negative emotion in Kyle's singing that really brings forth the lyrics of the song, which are about a seemingly picture perfect relationship that was, in reality full of hurt. It's quite the contrast to the songs on the album before and after it.

11) Twilight: THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM...what can I say? I absolutely love it!!! It's a midtempo ballad with good, unique lyrics. Everything about it is good; strong verses, strong bridge, strong chorus. I really like the guitar at the beginning; it adds a very unique flavor to the song. If I was new to the Dexter Freebish scene and had never heard the band before, hearing this song alone would instantly sell them to me.

12)Breakdown: Very good breakdown for the album; it's a slower song that has guitars and strings and a lot of good singing and emotion on Kyle's part. It just has the "grand finale" sound to it which ends the album with such a good feel.

This CD is just as good as "Life of Saturdays" if not better. Prozak is awesome. It blew my mind how they could play better than their first CD. I would recommed it to any music fan.
