Howlies would have my endorsement just on the basis of their sound -- I have missed those clean guitars for way too long. Their smart, sassy tunes just make the experience that much sweeter. Hurray for Howlies! Long live the pure pop song.

I heard this on Saturday at my local record store. Wow! Think Modern Lovers, dBs, the Soft Boys -- all bands I had only recently re-discovered or newly discovered at the wise old age of 41.

The guy at the store described them as having an "antique" sound. I couldn't put it better myself. Check it out, it's got solid, old-style production values. Having just bought the Killers new one, which did nothing for me, this was the perfect antidote.
