3.0 out of 5 stars Vengeance is mine!, December 14, 2006
This review is from: Trippin (Paperback)
Michelle Buckley brings seven individuals with very different personalities to life in the novel, Trippin'. They all enlist as members of the newly formed Destination: Anticipation Travel (DAT) Club which was formed by the vivacious, Dr. Madetra Price. Madetra married her college sweetheart and forms the travel club in hopes of sparking new life into their marriage. The club is comprised of people who harbor dark secrets. These deep secrets include drug addictions, dealing and supplying drugs, extorting money and sex from others and living a sordid lifestyle. It is interesting for the reader to witness the drama unfold as each of the seven characters expose different agendas as the basis for joining the club. The explicit and sometimes devious scenarios will raise your brows.

Unknowingly, all members of the DAT Club share a connection to Madetra that digs deeper than their club affiliation and can possibly lead to a fatal outcome. Madetra's husband, Darryn, is a meticulous accountant who begins to transform before readers' eyes as he struggles with some unexpected habits. Kaylantra, Madetra's twin sister is an adult entertainer whose goal always seems induced by excessive currency. When introduced to the right person, her hardened exterior appears to dissipate. Madetra shares office space with E'an, a psychiatrist who is obsessed with Madetra's life and relationships. Gerald, a massage therapist who goes to unethical lengths to secure his place in a relationship with someone who might not necessarily have had time for him if life were as fabulous for her as she leads others to believe it is. Finesse, a television anchor gets involved unsuspectingly with another member of the DAT Club and sheds a bit of his self-assured demeanor. Destanie is also a television producer; however, she is borderline psychotic and driven to ruin any happiness for Finesse.

Many of the scenes are predictable and calculated. It is initially confusing to keep track of each of the seven characters, particularly because the book is busy from the onset. However, midway through the novel, the role of each character becomes a little less chaotic and somewhat easier to manage. People are sometimes unable to move on without closure. Madetra's efforts to put closure to all of the resulting situations she endured as part of the DAT Club are unforeseen. The steamy, sizzling raw encounters will leave readers fanning the flames of passion while feeling a sense of trepidation for the victim.

But Madetra, Kaylantra, Darryn, E'an, Finesse, Gerald, and Destanie get a lot more than they bargained for when these trips turn very ugly. Lies, sex, drugs, and murder soon plaque the club members. Everything comes to a head following their trip to Las Vegas where they wish everything that happened in Vegas actually stayed in Vegas. There is a blackmailer and killer among the DAT Club members, and they better find out who it is before it's too late.

Trippin' is the perfect title for this electrifying novel by Michelle Buckley. Buckley expertly weaves a tale full of drama, suspense, and murder. I loved how this author took seven unique characters and intertwined their stories so effortlessly that the reader will not be confused. From the very first page I knew that this book was going to be more than just a group of people going on vacation. There are so many wonderful twists and turns in this story that you better pay attention or you'll miss something. Trippin' is an entertaining, suspenseful, pageturner that is definitely worth a trip to your local bookstore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trippin' by Michelle Buckley: An PeoplewholoveGoodBooks Review, July 15, 2006
This review is from: Trippin (Paperback)
When seven people get together to form a travel club, they have NO idea what they are getting into. Lives will be forever changed and nothing will ever be the same. Madetra, Kay, Darryn, E'an, Finesse, Gerald, and Destanie are looking forward to traveling to exotic locations and enjoying all life has to offer. What starts off as fun and good times quickly turns dark as jealousy, secrets, lies, addiction, and betrayal come into play. Several members find themselves not only being stalked but blackmailed as well. Soon they start dying in "mysterious" accidents....who is the killer? who will be next? "Trippin" is the second novel by Michelle Buckley, the same author who bought us "Bulletproof Soul" . Ms. Buckley proved to be a talented writer with "Bulletproof Soul" but with "Trippin", she shows her versatility and that is the mark of an gifted author. "Trippin" is nothing like her previous work , it is the perfect blend of mystery, suspense, betrayal, and drama. It grabs your attention and draws you in as the identity of the killer will shock and surprise you! Sit back and enjoy the ride! "Trippin" will leave you Trippin!! I give this book 5 stars. 5.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs up to Trippin`, July 11, 2006
By
This review is from: Trippin (Paperback)
I read this book and found it intriguing and fast to read. It was different from most of the other books I've read in recent months. I loved how the author got her characters interactive together where they all connected. I was wondering how Buckley was going to tie 7 people into one storyline without confusing the readers--and she did it! I give it a 5.

Thumbs up to Trippin' cause it will really take your mind on a trip of no return.

4.0 out of 5 stars First there were seven, and then there was one, August 30, 2006
This review is from: Trippin (Paperback)
Dr. Madetra Price has a very special life. As a doctor, she's got the opportunity of a lifetime ... practicing in her very own neighborhood. Who said it wouldn't come with problems? Being sexually harassed by one of the partners, E'an Shaw is only half her worries. Although he's fine as all get outdoors, he just isn't her type. Too bad it's not her choice whether or not she decides to give him a chance.

Kaylantra, her twin sister, is something else. A stripper and internet porn star, all she thinks about is money. But, with a body like hers, who wouldn't? Finesse Brown, Kansas City's resident suck-up, do what he has to do for a promotion anchor man is not only arrogant, he's downright stupid. After being in a relationship and knocking up Destanie, his producer, he decides to move on - without Destanie's blessing.

Gerald St. John has always wanted to be a baseball player, and he's taking the necessary steps to make that happen ... or so he thinks. Although his mind is on the game, his heart is with someone else - Madetra Price. And then there's Darryn, Madetra's husband, who's definitely in love ... just not with her.

As all these individuals come together to form a travel club, their trips turn out to be more than fun. Becoming entwined in one another's lives, they all realize the club isn't what they originally planned it to be. Deceit, lies and hatred reign supreme in this novel, guaranteed to leave you wondering what's going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat in this thriller. Michelle Buckley definitely put it down. And one thing is certain ... never underestimate the power of a familial bond. It just might leave you TRIPPIN'.

Michelle, I really enjoyed your book. I couldn't put it down for the two days it took me to finish it. I love the way you entangled all of the characters; not an easy thing to do when there are so many of them. I can't wait to have the bookclub discussion with you. I'm ordering Bulletproof Soul today and I'm looking forward to your next book. You're now one of my "must read" authors. Thanks and see you at the bookclub discussion/signing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trip out with Trippin`, July 9, 2006
This review is from: Trippin (Paperback)
Be careful who you travel with you may find yourself facing death from the creative imagination of a doctor gone mad, Madetra, who used her medical expertist to kill off those who betrayed her trust and loyalty. Trippin` wears it's title well, as quoted, "What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas." I was impressed how the author Michelle Buckley, was able to bind the ties of 7 characters in one story without confusing the diverse flava of personalities she brought to life on the pages of Trippin`, to her readers. Trippin' is a fast pace reader for those looking to escape this summer while venturing with a travel club across the globe of 7 professional people plagued with some real issues of insanity, love, lust, sex, drugs, and even murder.

Trippin' deserves a rating of a 4+ for its originality and the connection of one character to another.
