Trippingly On The Tongue,
By
This review is from: Trippingly on the Tongue: A Book of Instruction for Speaking Early Modern English (Paperback)
This book is marvelously informative for those wishing to speak the language of Early Modern English. Be prepared to jostle the cobewebs from high school english and relearn basic sentance structures and verb conjugations in order to rethink in the prose of days of yore. Both witty and historical, this book makes learning fun.

It could have sucked more, I suppose.,

This review is from: Trippingly on the Tongue: A Book of Instruction for Speaking Early Modern English (Paperback)
I was SO disappointed by this book. I had heard it highly recommended by a number of faire veterans, and having read it, I have to wonder at their taste.Just getting through the typos, misspellings, and grammatical errors is a headache. Yes, I can tell it was a low-budget publication, but could no one be bothered to proofread it? In a book about language, it is sad and yet laughable how poor the language it contains is. It is not particularly helpful, either, if you have had any instruction in Elizabethan/Renaissance English. The author goes into far too much detail about conjugation and parts of speech (Yes, thank you, I happen to remember what a predicate is. If you don't, perhaps you should review modern English first?), while skimming over the more important parts regarding acting, such as pronunciation, emphasis, and the difference between lower class and higher class accents. I found this book atrocious, and though I received it as a gift, I am ashamed to have asked for it and wasted my loved one's money on this tripe.
