Format: Paperback
One of the best short story anthologies recently hitting the market has to be Triskaidekan: 13 Stories for 2013. Written exclusively by Ohio authors, the thirteen stories selected by the Columbus Creative Cooperative for Triskaidekan range from science fiction and suspense to adventure, drama, and romance, all referencing the number 13.

Talent and writing skills are apparent in each piece. "Patterns," the first story hooked me so much I couldn't wait to read to the end of the story and start the next one. "Thirteen Visits to the Same State" and "Miles to Go" also drew me in, weaving magic spells around me so that I could not put the anthology down. "The Pocket Watch" and "The Cat Lady" both played to my emotions, and "On the Wings of Hell" and "A Baker's Dozen" surprised me with their uniqueness. The stories are all captivating.

This collection of short stories stands above most others, particularly as all the stories merit reading rather than just one or two. Savor the individual short stories. Support these excellent writers and the writer's organization. Read the book.

These stories have a diverse range and I found myself reading the next purely because I wanted to see how they used the number 13. It's surprisingly addictive. A few stories are too ambiguous in their story telling (which to be fair is stereotypical for short stories). Because it is an anthology, each reads completely different. My friends and I have spent much time discussion these stories. It is definitely worth the purchase.

2013 doesn't feel especially significant as far as years go, what with the hype surrounding 2012, but reading this book it makes you wonder if a number might actually be more meaningful than it first seems. Something starts to get under your skin as you read these stories, each with its own take. I love that these authors can bring meaning to their stories based on just a number. Expect to be surprised by this book.

After working all day, I often don't have the energy to read a novel before bed, so short stories are a good bedside reader. Tis collection has a variety of contemporary fiction, captive nonfiction, suspense, and fantasy. While some stories could use one more revision, overall the tales in this book are well told.

The odd title is a harbinger for offbeat stories about the number thirteen. Far from traditional stories of black cats and witches casting spells on unsuspecting heroines, Triskaidekan serves up thirteen oddly wonderful stories you'll read again and again. From a heart-wrenching story about unrequited love to a wildly entertaining romp of a pocket watch that stops time, you'll be riveted from the first story to the last. The stories in Triskaidekan are as much as fun the title.
