The Four children have a new challenge to face,
By Nancy E. "Nancy" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle of Magic #2) (Mass Market Paperback)
As the second book in the Circle of Magic series, Tris's book proves to be even better than the last. Having a more darker air this book pulls you in with it's vivid descriptions and wonderful charecters, expecially Tris. Ever since the four young mages living at Winding Circle, Tris, Daja, Briar, and Sandry, joined their powers with Sandry's weaving strange things have been happening. They can talk to eachother through their minds, and hear peoples voices on the wind, a talent only TRis used to posess. Their powers have been connected somehow and they don't know why. But they are put to the test when Pirats attack the only home they know about. People are dying and no one knows how to stop them. What can they do to protect their home? If you want to find out read this book. I found it to be even better than the last. I reccomend this book to people who love Sandry's book, magical midevil fiction, or Tamora Pierce's work.

Weather Witch!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle of Magic #2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Tris' book is the second best in the series (Brair's being the best) and is a book you must read. When pirates attack winding circle, the only home to the four mages in training Sandry, Daja, Tris, And Briar, they have come with a new weapon. How will the four fight to protect the only home that they have been accepted in?this is a book that has it's own unique plot filled with unforgetable characters. In this book, I found that the description of tris's past to be interesting and strange in the sense that her family are so mean. I can say that the end is good and the text will keep you reading. I give this five stars because I not only love all of Tamora Pierce's books, but I think that this book has a wonderful way of describing things that happen in her world, and in the real world with the added push of magic and a new language. If you like smart-mouthed red heads that have unsettling ways with the weather, then this book is for you. So if your looking for an good book, then you have found one in this!!!!! I truly believe that this series is the best, and Tris's book is one of them that earns it it's name!

Tris's Book,

This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle Of Magic) (Hardcover)
So far, I have only read the first two of the circle of magic series, but Tris's Book is better that the first book, Sandry's. I like the adventure at the end better, with the pirates. It was better than the earthquake. In my middle school, very few kids read Tamora Pierce's books. I really like them because like all her other books I've read,(All the Song of the Lioness and Immortal Series) there is magic, and someone is trying to learn theirs. Alanna was afraid of her magic and Daine was convinced she didn't have any, but then she was taught more magic. I am very anious to read Daja's and Brair's books, but the school library doesn't even have Sandry's. I had to buy them all myself. I guess I like these books because they are my age. I have recommened these books to my friends, and they now like them just as much. There is just something very cool about Tamora Piece's books that my friends and I really like.

Tamora Pierce has done it again.,

This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle Of Magic) (Hardcover)
This is the second book in the Circle of Magic Quartet, but it is not second when it comes right down to it. Tamora Pierce has written many books about the Kingdom of Tortall, but this series is in a compleatly different world. This makes this series even better. Though I love her other series, and I am glad that she is continuing in her next set of books, but reading about a new world and new characters if a great change. Tris's Book begins two weeks after Sandry's Book, the first book, ended. The four children mages of Disipline Cottage are continuing their lessons with their teachers. Lark is teaching Sandry how to use her magic to weave. The Smith is teaching Daja how use her magic to look for metals under the ground. Rosethorne is teaching Briar more about the plants in her garden and how their magics connect them togethar. Last but not least, Niko is again intrupting Tris's lessons because of a large, unexpected explosion. This explosion is only the begining of the troubles at Winding Circle Temple. Pirate's attack the Temple, throwing exploding balls into the protective walls. All of the residents are needed to help protect the Temple from being destroyed. Tris, Sandry, Briar, and Daja must decide what to do to help and how they can use their powers to help. By the end of the book they have learned a lot of lessons, and they grow in wisdom. They also learn that they need to learn controll, over anything else, of their powers will be worthless. After reading this book, I am now anxiously awaiting for the next two books of this quartet to be written and published. Tamora Pierce is a wonderful writer. She writes so that the readers feel as if they are a part of the action. I highly recomend this book, and all of her other books, to all kinds of readers of all ages. There is something in this book that will appeal to all different kinds of readers.

"You Upset Her When She's Already Frightened...",

This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle of Magic #2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This volume is the second in a four-part series called "Circle of Magic" and is also titled "The Power in the Storm". Set in a fantasy realm over a one-year period, Tamora Pierce tells the story of four young mages who are brought together to live at the temple community of Winding Circle, to control and properly use their various powers.
The children couldn't be more different, but their studies bring them closer together till they are bonded magically (unbeknown to their four mentors), each sharing in the other's unique magic. Pierce claims that her inspiration comes from the olde-world handicrafts that are dying from our own world, such as weaving and metalcraft. Such things are channelled through into the mage's powers, with the exception of Tris who is a 'weather witch' and can hear voices on the wind. Summersea is still recovering from the earthquake of the previous book, but the damage done to the harbour defences mean that Winding Circle is vulnerable to pirates. The children at Disciple Cottage are called upon to help strengthen the damaged buildings, and it is then that the pirates appear on the seas - and they have their eyes fixed on the riches of the temple. Once again, it comes down the children to rescue their beloved home - which isn't easy considering their is a betrayer in their midst... The tension and claustrophobia of the temple is vividly created, and the pain that the pirates caused heartbreaking. Most of the action concerns the mages and their teachers preparing the defences, though I have to say that when the climactic moment comes, it's over rather quickly. The turncoat within Winding Circle is obvious, and the subplot involving Tris caring for a baby bird is interesting, but a little needless. However, the human element is something that Pierce is great at capturing and she does so here extremely well. Tris is a wonderful character, and perhaps the most vivid and interesting of all four of the children. Plump, with glasses, red frizzy hair and a bad temper, this bookworm has a prickly personality that often puts her at odds with most people, and she infinitely prefers a book to human company. Estranged from her unloving family, she is only now beginning to open up to the feelings of human affection. But it doesn't help that the weather churns up whenever she looses her temper. Each book also explore one of the friendships between the four, and this one mostly concerns Briar and Tris. The fact that such opposites, from such different walks of life can become friends is immensely touching. The other two children have segments of the book dedicated to them, and the bond between all of them is deep and realistic. Not the best Pierce has to offer, and yet still a pleasant read with Pierce's ability to create the shades of grey in what could easily be a black and white novel.

A great continuation!,

This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle of Magic #2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book was even better than the last one! This book is mostly centered on Tris, the weather witch (hence the title). When pirates attack Winding Circle, the four children are very scared. The pirates definitely have an advantage, and things get quite dangerous. This book definitely has a darker air to it, but it also contains more action and a greater understand of Winding Circle and the young mages' magic. Overall, I think this book is excellent, and even though I had some doubts about this series after reading Sandry's Circle, they have now vanished. I hope Daja's Book will be as good as, if not more, then Tris's Book.

Growing Mages,

This review is from: Tris's Book (Circle of Magic #2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was very good. The four young students are learning and experencing new things, inculuding how to manage and develop their powers. It is filled with suspencful and exciting wonderous things: any one who enjoys magical/fantasy books will truely enjoy this book. The end is especially exciting. This books shows just how powerful each young students magic can become, and how afraid they are of it -- especially in Tris's case. I do not wish to ruin the book for you, but it is defenitally worth reading. This book is just as good, if not better than the one that precede's it.

I loved Book number 2. I've only read Daja, Tris and Briar, but Tris was by far the best one. She is my favorite character and it gave me a closer look at her character. I hope to read Sandry and the Circle Opens #1.
