Book Description

From the bustling streets of New York City to the smoky speakeasies of Roaring Twenties Chicago, Tristan finds huge financial success. Along with respect, tradition, and family, he promises himself that this will be enough. Having achieved peace by forgiving his father his debauchery, he's certain that there is nothing that could induce him to follow in his father's lascivious footsteps. Like father, like son will never apply to Tristan.

Then the urgent whisper that has been telling him there should be more than what he is experiencing with his wife becomes a full blown roar. With a very proper wife that refuses to loosen up, Tristan learns that the passion of the father is very much the passion of the son. To deny it may be impossible, but to embrace it could cost him everything.

This historical fiction novel is book 3 of a 5 book drama/family saga for adults (The Gastien Series). As such, it contains adult themes and graphic scenes. Each book can stand on its own, but is most compelling read in order.

Editorial Reviews

"...The Gastien series is becoming a great historical epic, following the twisted fortunes of a family that seems torn between the desires of different generations...The third book in Caddy Rowland's Gastien series sees the narrative shift a little and find a new focus. The backdrop of America is well developed and gives great colour to the story, while Tristan effortlessly carries the narrative as a genuinely fascinating and complex protagonist." - Chris Algernon, IndieBookspot.

"This is the third book in this series, and it is breath many twists and surprises in it, it takes you on a ride and doesn't stop until the last page." - Crystal Trent Dotson, All My Book Finds
... if you've read my review of book two, you will remember how upset I was about Tristan's actions at the end. YES it stayed with me for that long, which should tell you a lot about the deep emotional connection that Caddy Rowland forges between the readers and her characters...It takes a powerful writer to make a reader absolutely loathe a character for months, but it takes a master to make them fall in love again. -Misty R. TheTopShelf

"...EXCELLENT story teller...heart wrenching and impossible to put down..." Christina Baker Irelan, Intoxicated by books

From the Author

The Gastien Series is complete and includes the following titles:
Gastien: The Cost of the Dream (Book 1)
Gastien: From Dream to Destiny (Book 2)
Tristan Michel: Bloodline of Passion (Book 3)
Giselle: Keeper of the Flame (Book 4)
Gastien: Circle of Destiny (Book 5)
The Gastien Series is many things: historical fiction, drama, family saga, psychological novel. Some are also coming of age and love stories. The last books include gay coming of age and gay romance. Just like any family, there are many stories to tell.

It is dark, sad, upsetting, heartwarming, funny and always thought-provoking. There are a few blatantly cruel scenes and some extremely tender ones. The series tackles social issues such as class struggle, homelessness, the quest for power, bigotry, family secrets, and shows how one man's choices effect others for generations to come.

Be prepared for an extremely emotional read. Yes, at times the characters will upset you. You will love, hate, pity, respect, disrespect and cheer for them. Just like in any family, no one is perfect. Their personality warts are fully displayed. You will grow to feel like a part of the Beauchamps, and when the series is over the characters will stay alive in your mind for weeks.

Come along and join the family. Let them tell you their story. I think you will find the ride unlike any you've taken before.

*This series is meant for adults. As such, it contains adult scenes and themes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner in this series of books July 29, 2013

I throughly enjoyed this book. To me it was not as intense as the first two books about Gastien's life; but Tristan's life itself was not as intense. That doesn't mean the book was not as good it was - usually by the time you get to the 3rd book of a series the book is getting predictable and the story watered down and drawn out. But not in this series. Each book has its own story that is very well written with charachers that are very real. I'm on to the next book. This is the first books that I have read by this author - if there are any more out there I'll certainly read them as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review by Intoxicated by Books December 12, 2012
I don't think Caddy will ever disappoint me and she has literally set almost impossible standards for herself. Her first book, Gastien, was so good I didn't think the story would get better in the second book. Caddy surprised me, she exceeded my expectations with books two and three.

I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks with certain parts of this story. I actually laughed so hard my husband looked at me like I was crazy at others. When I called the first book an "emotional roller coaster" I wasn't exaggerating and books 2 and 3 have most definitely followed suit.

Caddy Rowland is an EXCELLENT story teller. All of her books have been heart wrenching and impossible to put down. The story just grabs you from the very beginning and makes you feel like you are there with the characters watching the scenes take place rather than reading them.

I'm absolutely sure that book 4 will be just as amazing as the first 3 and I can't wait to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gastien's bloodline is unstoppable. How exciting. January 24, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Tristan Michel's story is ever as delightful as his father, Gastien. Caddy Rowland once again throws us into the world of color and love. Love of art and that of humanity shines through once again. The book leaves us spellbound, breathless and yearning for the next page. Gastien went far, so his bloodline must go even further. Well written and highly praised. Well done Caddy Rowland

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining June 27, 2012
Tristan doesn't want to be like his father, and tells Gastien he doesn't want to see him again. Tristan knows nothing could ever make him follow in his fathers footsteps. Soon after Tristan and his wife, Manon move to New York and Tristan becomes very successful but, he knows something is missing, a desire deep within that isn't being satisfied by his wife. While in Chicago he meets Billie, a luscious woman that gives him the thrill he's been longing for. He decides to divorce his wife and start a life with Billie, but little does he know that life with Bille would not be what he had hoped for.
This is the third book in this series, and it is breath taking. They was so many twists and surprises in it, it takes you on a ride and doesn't stop until the last page. I loved all three books and can't wait for the next one.

1.0 out of 5 stars BORING..... November 24, 2013
By Sammy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was the third book in the series, and frankly it was boring. It was very much like reading the same book three times. The first book was the best - not because it was the first, but because the story was better. The young man's struggles to just survive and also to become the artist he knew he wanted to be in a terribly difficult time in history, was very interesting. It was good in spite of the raunchy, long-winded, sexual portions that included every little minute detail. That was BORING !! The second and third books seemed to have not much more to offer than the raunchy sex.

More About the Author

The drama of humanity. We live, die, love, hate, win and lose in a never-ending variety of ways. Often those ways are heart-wrenching. Other times they are not.

Why do people make the choices they do? Why do some abuse power? How do the powerless learn to survive? Why do a few dare to be different, while others conform--and why are so many disturbed by those who don't? These are the questions that have always haunted author Caddy Rowland. Those questions keep her pounding away at her keyboard, creating novels showcasing the sublime joy and bitter tragedy of being human.

Caddy has always been a nonconformist. She likes to push the proverbial envelope when it comes to characterization and world building. Heroes have warts; villains have soft spots. Main characters don't always learn their lessons because all too often we don't, either. There isn't always a happy ending, but sometimes there is. Otherwise she'd be predictable.

She writes for readers who like to think and feel; who like their stories to be raw, graphic, unpredictable, "real" and sometimes brutal. For readers who like their boundaries challenged; to be shown how rarely life decisions are truly black and white, but instead shades of grey.

Think of a carnival midway with books instead of rides. She asks you make sure you're the minimum height if you plan on riding alone. You must also leave prejudices and inhibitions behind the entry gate. If you can't, Rowland's reads might be a tad much for you. Don't worry. There are plenty of safer reads out there. Just step out of the line and find a more appropriate book for your reading enjoyment.

No, Caddy Rowland's novels aren't for everyone. But then again, they just might be for you.
