Agents Max and Miranda fall tonsil-deep into betrayal.

On their first mission together, Max and Miranda hunt a predatory alien on Earth. When Max becomes dinner for an alien ruler, Miranda begins doubting her decision to become an agent.

A threat grows with every bite.

Together, Agents Max and Miranda must overcome deceit, conflicting evidence, and evisceration to stop a growing menace on Earth and apprehend a traitor to the Intergalactic Secret Service.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining and fun read. February 5, 2012
Format:Paperback
Do you know how long it has been that I have spent a Saturday curled up with a good book? Me neither. I haven't sat on the couch and read a paper novel for a long time (I did read the book version), and this was a good book. I was intrigued from the first chapter. The author does a good job of revealing just bits and pieces of the story as you read along. This keeps you interested and guessing as to what will happen next.

There are some funny lines sprinkled through out the book, and many of them pull from other books and movies that you are sure to have read or seen before. Many of them are interjected by the main characters with out the characters seeming to know that the lines are funny, which I think makes them funnier still. Look for a little mid-western football humor towards the end. I would expect even non football watchers to think it was funny.

To me, the most intriguing device the author used was to alternate the characters used for the first person perspective. At the top of each chapter, he would indicate if the perspective was that of Max, or Miranda. This was well done, and the writing really did feel like it changed to match the male or female character being portrayed. I can imagine that this took a good bit of thought to keep straight. I thought that switching between the characters this way was a great way to "get inside" the heads of the two main characters.

I felt that the author did a great job of providing closure to this story, and yet providing enough interest to have us await the next in what could clearly be a series, or trilogy. This was a great weekend read, and I hope the author has other episodes planned to continue the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable February 17, 2012
By DLM
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. The characters are well developed and you find yourself rooting for them through their many adventures. There were parts that made me chuckle out loud and really bad puns - used on purpose - that made me groan - all the while keeping me thoroughly entertained. I really liked the fact that the author switched back and forth between the two main characters. Done poorly it may have made the story choppy, but it was actually done well so it helped keep the narrative flowing smoothly. If you're looking for a book with hard scifi tech appeal this isn't it, but if you're looking for a darn good, entertaining story you wouldn't be embarrassed to share with your teenager give this a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dangerous Job - but someone has to do it. April 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Warning - to those with addictive personalities. This book is like your drug of choice, candy or potato chips.

The premise: There are those who would like to see the human race reach its full potential. That means keeping people safe from the meanies in the universe from killing us off, if we don't manage to do it to ourselves.

So here come the secret agents working hard to keep us humans alive in our world. Two of them are Max and Miranda. They have special capabilities and certain vulnerabilities. The capabilities are physical and otherworldly. The vulnerabilities happen to be to each other.

By the end of the book you'll be addicted and screaming at the author, Erik Hyrkas, to hurry up and bring us another book of action and adventure in what will be a wonderful series.
