This review is from: Triumph Of The Spirit (1989 Film) (Audio CD)
At once soaring, introspective, powerful, brooding -- hauntingly and achingly beautiful -- Cliff Eidelman's score is -- well -- a triumph!

I've never seen the film for which this was written but the music is a contemporary masterwork, written for orchestra and choir, that deserves to join the concert repertoire.

I was puzzled by the language sung by the choir. Then I found that in 1995, Eidelman wrote to Filmus-L in response to a query:

"Rabbi Bernard Savitz wrote poems based on what I thought the the scenes emotional needs were. Then he translated the text into Ladino, which is a mix of Hebrew and Spanish. The Greek Jews in Spain and Eastern Europe spoke it at the time of the second World War. Now no one speaks Ladino anymore. I then put the text to my music. Of all my film scores, this one is my personal favorite and I am thrilled that this work which was released on Varese in 1989 has reached some people. This work will be re-released in the future."

Eidelman's other scores include "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery" and "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country".
