You have to be a fan, November 7, 2008
This review is from: Trivia from the Twilight Zone (Paperback)
This book is a MUST if you are a 100% dedicated Twilight Zone fan. I mean, you wear the TV shirts, you can recite the dialogue before it's spoken on the TV screen, you the name of every actor who walks in the background as a passerby. Yes, the trivia is that challenging. One wonders who has the time to watch the episodes that much to decipher each scene, signpost and prop. If you are a casual fan or enjoy the series, this may be too difficult to solve. Questions range from easy to difficult.
Trivia books are fun if you want to smack yourself in the head and question how you didn't remember what it was William Shatner ordered at the diner in "Nick of Time." Only flaw I find is the book is REALLY thin. And the last third of the book are the answers to the trivia questions so there isn't a lot of trivia. Photographs are high resolution and the cover has to be one of the two best covers ever for a Twilight Zone book.
Reprinting scripts to a television program we enjoy watching isn't very exciting. Even less interesting for people trying to study film making, which is the point of reviewing scripts. Very few exceptions make scripts worth any value -- one being a page or two of dialogue that never made it to the finished production or handwritten notes from the author. While this is a valid and negative point, I would like to note that the commentary and insight behind the production of each episode is a plus. In fact, the best part of the book.
The other book to have the nicest cover is also a trivia book. Amazon.com offers the solution in the form of THE TWILIGHT ZONE: UNLOCKING THE DOOR TO A TELEVISION CLASSIC by Martin Grams Jnr. which covers the entire series with 800 plus pages of behind-the-scenes trivia, exclusive interviews with cast and crew and a detail level will exceed anyone's expectation. So much detail that it's impossible not to create your own trivia questions.
I recommend you purchase both books, not just one.

It Has Been Decided In Your Favor, April 17, 2008
This review is from: Trivia from the Twilight Zone (Paperback)
So...you think you know all there is to know about The Twilight Zone?
Do you amaze your friends by quoting entire passages from memory?
As a member of The Rod Serling Memorial Foundation, I believe I am qualified to judge "Trivia from The Twilight Zone", by Bill DeVoe as a MUST BUY.
After only the first few pages, one quicky realizes the depth of Mr. Devoe's vast knowledge of The Twilight Zone. Presented in a uniquely entertaining and original format, Mr. DeVoe delights us at every turn, keeping us engaged and surprised.
So, in conclusion, if you happen to pass a Mystic Seer and ask the question, "should I buy this book?" the answer you would certainly get would be "It has been decided in your favor."

INCLUDED IN THIS BOOK:
1. Series creator Rod Serling made up the phrase "Sixth Dimension" to use in season one's opening narration. William Self of CBS-TV asked him what was the fifth dimension (given that dimensions one through three are exemplified by a line, a plane, and a cube, respectively, and the fourth is time). Serling answered, "I don't know. Aren't there five?" He then changed the narration to "There is a fifth dimension..."
2. Rod Serling thought he had come up with the term "Twilight Zone" on his own (he liked the sound of it), but after the show aired he found out that it is an actual term used by Air Force pilots when crossing the day / night sides above the world.
3. Of the three "Twilight Zone" TV series over the years, this is the only one which does not include Rod Serling's image during the opening credits. Of course, this is the only one of the series to have the opening voice-over performed by Serling.
4. Chaser quizzes
