BURNT...!!,

This review is from: Troggs Tapes (Audio CD)
Great album. It's a good 10 years after the initial Troggs album ("From Nowhere") and we have a 5-piece band now. The sound is edgier but still great garage-rock fun. I'm not sure if any of the songs were hits but I seem to remember hearing "Gonna Make You" (with it's Bo Diddley drum beat)somewhere before. This album has been likened to "punk" but a couple of sweet ballads kill that notion.
Now for the BAD news..! I wrongfully assumed the final bonus track, "The True Troggs Tapes" (which runs for nearly 10 minutes), to be the original "put some fairy-dust on it" studio banter that supposedly inspired Spinal Tap and had the underground in fits of laughter. Boy, was I WRONG..! The "True Troggs Tapes" included here is indeed studio banter but, instead of the original expletive-laden laugh-fest, we now have Reg Presley and the rest of the guys TRYING to be funny... and as we all know, rock musicians are not great comedians! I guarantee that you will only listen to this track once if you can sit through it at all. It is just embarrassing drivel.. the kind of unfunny persiflage that you would hear from a group of half-drunken simpletons at a party, laughing at their own stupid discourse. If this Repertoire CD release would have contained the ORIGINAL "Troggs Tape", it would be rated 5 stars PLUS! I have no-one to blame but myself for my crimes of assumption and wishful thinking...so BE WARNED. Don't think you're going to get the "fairy dust" spiel here because you wont.

the troggs last 70's release,

This was the last release from the band in the seventies. It has lots of good rock songs on it that are sort of punky and sort of not! 'get you tonight' , 'we rode through the night' are obviously sex orientated in content, and that's the troggs aimed at young men but gals can like this type of rock too. The disc was named after the infamouse trogg tapes of the band cussing out each other during a recording session. They were being taped going at it and then the tape got out. this was a protohard rock band in the sixties , as well as being alot of other things, but that tape inspired spinal tap and other artists got a kick out of it. SOme versions of this cd have a ten minute segment of the original session. But the original disc did not have that it was just a bunch of seventies rock songs. ANd these are good songs not metal but simply simplistic trogg rock.

You thought "Wild Thing" was hot? This overlooked masterpiece is rock at it raunchiest, crudest and most delectable! Best album to put on if you want to feel life at it's most compelling and seductive. Throw in a gorgeous ballad or two, you've got a perfect rock record.
