Except for Rita Marley, most reggae listeners may not recognize the names of these (mostly) splendid performers. Fans of the 50's "girl groups" in the US will feel instant affinity to this music. It rocks slowly, is sensual, and generally well remastered, and as with other Trojan boxes, it's a great value too, offering over 50 cuts on three CD's for the price of one. Problem is...My first box was missing CD #1 and my second box included a second CD that was almost mutiliated in packing. The e-mail addresses printed on the box weren't accepting mail when I attempted to inform the label of my problem. Personally, I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get better manufacturing quality than this stuff. Having said that, I can't imagine any fan of vintage rock or reggae who won't love this collection. From familiar covers of R&B classics to songs so catchy you'll wonder why you hadn't heard them 'till now. Also note, this collection captured five stars from MOJO magazine in March 2003.

My discs were fine, so I can't confirm the maufacturing and packing problems. This is a wonderful collection of R&B covers by women singers. And you have probably never heard this stuff. Reggae as known in the west is predominately male, so this is a nice corrective. It will add needed variety to your reggae collection and shuffles. At the same time, one wonders why female reggae artists primarily recorded covers, while male artists recorded orginal material for the most part.
