Rude Boy Box Set,

Three discs. 43,48,50 min. each approximately. Sound is good. This collection depicts,in song,a time in Jamaica's history when lawlessness was looked upon as exciting. Recorded beginning in the sixties and on through the seventies,this is music from the ska era into rocksteady. Probably the one track most people will know is Desmond Dekker's 007 Shanty Town. This music was extemely popular for a time and reached a majority of Jamaicans. As such,it told a story of political corruption and a general sense of helplessness. The music,itself,is almost secondary to the words being sung. A look at the titles of some of these songs will tell you all you need to know. This is a fascinating period in Jamaican life. Its nice that Trojan saw fit to put this music out-both as a record of the times and as enjoyable music.
