Book Description

Troll King Trilogy April 7, 2005
Having freed the trolls of Dismal Swamp from the tyranny of Stygius Rex, the reluctant troll leader Rollo has left the swamp on a bittersweet mission: to return his little friend Clipper to her people in the Forbidden Forest. It's a dangerous trip but he's determined not to fail. Ludicra, the troll who now finds Rollo worthy of her attentions, is distraught over his absence and convinced he needs her help. So she assembles a crew of trolls, ogres and even a gnome to cross the Great Chasm in search of her beloved. But the Chasm holds its own dangers and now the rescue party is in need of rescue! Look out for: TROLL TREASURE (1 904233 59 7) coming in May 2005.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6-In this slipshod follow-up to The Troll King (Aladdin, 2002), Rollo has disappeared and his girlfriend, Ludicra, is desperate to find him, mainly because she wants to be Queen of the Trolls. So begins the journey of trolls, ogres, and gnomes. Rollo, in the meantime, is trying to return the body of his dead fairy friend Clipper to her people. He's also hoping to use a magic knife to bring her back to life, but needs to find someone who can show him how. The two story lines finally meet, with fairly predictable results. The plot moves at such a breakneck pace that there's no sense of time passing. Characters never get beyond the one-dimensional and the dialogue is annoyingly stiff. Instead of buying The Troll Queen, consider filling your shelves with more offbeat visions of fantasy by Patricia Wrede, Jon Scieszka, Vivian Vande Velde, and Bruce Coville.

Review

'Rollo's underdog status, inadvertent success and realistic coming-of-age make him an appealling character. This fantasy should be a popular addition to collections' SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL, 'Brisk and engaging ... Rollo is a sympathetic protagonist whom young readers will enjoy meeting' BOOKLIST

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and accommodating., January 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Troll Queen (Troll King Trilogy) (Paperback)
This company was quick to send the book out. When the book arrived, it was a little bit more worn, than was described on their description. I reported this to the company. They were very quick in responding to my report. They gave me a full refund, and told me they didn't have another book to replace it. So, I could keep the book they sent. I would order from them again, because of their quick response, accommodation, and honesty. The item, I would rate 3 stars. The company, I would rate "5" stars. That's why I settled on 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Troll Queen, April 25, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Troll Queen (Troll King Trilogy) (Paperback)
This book is about a troll who wants to become a queen, but she needs Rollo because Rollo is supposed to become king. Her name is Ludicra. She has to find Rollo, but she can¡¦t do it on her own so she goes and ask Chomp, another troll, who works as a guard and Gnat, who is another troll, which is one of Ludicra friends. They have to cross dangerous living things they have never seen or imagined would be there!! Later Chomp has to go back to the under ground lair before boss finds out that Chomp and some of the workers are gone! So Ludicra and Gnat are on their own passing the ogres!!

I would recommend this book to some one who is full of adventure and danger. I liked this book because they go through amazing things and past ogres. The most amazing part was when they got to ride on a flying troll who practiced how to fly in the dark ::º

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't agree with the Library Journal Review, August 10, 2004
This review is from: The Troll Queen (Paperback)
I think John Vornholt is very creative in his world with the trolls, fairies, and elves. They are not as stereotypical as they could be. I found this book just as good as the first book. The travels through the caves make for interesting reading. The troubles of Rollo show his character.
