Compulsory reading for any serious trombonist.,
This review is from: Trombone Technique (Paperback)
This is one of the most informative trombone reference books I have ever read. Wick addresses problems encountered by most students in their learning years and provides answers and advice that produces good results and steers many clear of forming bad playing habits. In addition to actual trombone technique, Denis Wick provides information in regard to the Trombone itself, such as which 'Bone is best for playing in,say, a symphony orchestra or a dance band. He also gives advice on how to spot the duds when looking for a new trombone. At the back of the book there is also a list of nearly every piece of music featuring the trombone, organised into categories depending on the accompaniment, whether it's trombone solo, with piano, with orchestra, with band, etc. The only problem with this book is that Denis Wick originally wrote it about 20 years ago. In that time there has been much new music for the trombone written which is thus not included, and also many trombone models mentioned have either ceased to exist or been re-named. But otherwise this book is a must-read for any trombonist who hopes to make it their career. It is one of the few books for trombone that seriously address problems and questions that we haven't been able to find answers for. Denis Wick is one of the best and most famous trombonists in history and has provided "food for thought" for a whole new generation.Buy it now!

This review is from: Trombone Technique (Paperback)
Wick is well known, not only as performer and writer, but also as manufacturer of fine trombone mouthpieces. His "Trombone Technique" is hard to find and pricey when you do, but it is superb addition to any trombonist's (or brass player's) library. He is knowledgeable, opinionated without eccentricity, and writes with clarity and verve. Highly recommended.
