Even with the stock rom (December 2013), it streams better than the roku or the nook.

I was thinking about buying a wifi only tablet but then I said to my self, I'm not taking the tablet with me outside my home, it's too big for a pocket, so what's the use of a tablet if I'm not going to take it with me everywhere I go? My smartphone is already fulfilling that requirement. So if I'm going to use it only at home, it is better to use a bigger screen, like my TV, and it's not worth spending $300+ when I can buy this mini-PC, which does exactly the same as a tablet but only costs $80.

This version II fixes all problems that were reported with version 1. Wi-fi connection is good with the antenna, just make sure you don't turn it in the wrong direction; it only turns upwards, if you turn it down, the case opens. I did it and nothing was damaged because the antenna is connected with a cable and it doesn't break, just turn it back to its original position and snap the case back together.

I think it is really worth it to have a 47" android 4.2.2 tablet, with a quad core cpu and 2Gb of RAM for only $80. You can even install external hard drives, pendrives, micro-usb cards and whatever USB device you need. It even comes with an OTG cable to use the OTG micro-usb port to connect more external USB devices (make sure you use the port that says OTG since the other one is only for power or connecting to a PC. By the way, you can get power directly from your TV's USB port if you want).

The only down side, compared to a tablet, is that you don't have a touch screen, gyroscope, accelerometer, etc. so you can't turn the screen, move it, etc. but you can use your phone as a control and touch screen, just install the available application in your phone (download RKRemote from their website) and connect by using your wifi network.

The good people who make the Tronsmart MK 908 II offered to send me a free unit for review, even after I admitted that I've never used an Android PC before. And they didn't ask for a 'good' review either. So, here is my Android PC education. Not being a full 'geek', I will discuss the product mostly from the point of view of usability as in "what is it good for" or "what can I do with it" rather than get too much into raw specs or arcane features. I suspect that I will be updating my review as I learn and understand more about the product so that someone may be able to benefit from my experience.

WHAT IS IT?

The MK908 II has everything that you can see if you click on "See more product details" in the Product Features sections which is quite impressive, considering its small size and weight. Worth mentioning is the quad-core CPU, ports such as HDMI, USB and a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion.

It comes with its own power adapter that takes one of the 2 USB ports, has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, supports 1080p output.

For software, it comes to Android 4.2.2 installed and a few, mostly Chinese-made apps besides the expected Google suite.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You connect the power adapter to the MK908 and you use the supplied HDMI wire to connect to a monitor, a TV or the receiver to which a TV is attached. If all if well then you will soon see the Android main screen on your monitor or TV.

To control it initially you can use a USB corded mouse or any of the wireless mice or mouse/keyboard/touchpad combos that come with their own dongle. You then set up Wi-Fi and anything else you would set on an Android tablet and you are very much good to go.

It is possible to use a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard after the initial setup.

This is one of the best android devices I have ever owned. Coupled with a few extras like a usb airmouse with keyboard, a bluetooth gamepad, and an external hard drive, this makes an amazing game box and video player. It does an great job of streaming video over the network and internet. It played my hi 10 1080p bluerays from my pc without any lags at all with hardware decoding. It did a decent job of playing them with software decoding, (I still experienced occasional slow downs with the 1080p but not the 720p, both in hi 10)

Pros:
- Fast with low ram usage
-runs cool
-can be powered by tv's usb service port or data
-strong wifi signal
-supports multiple usb dives at once with a hub. (I've connected 2 3tb desktop external drives a 1tb portable drive and a 4gb thumb drive it all at once to a none powered hub and it automatically mounted all of them)

Cons:
-sometimes forgets my bluetooth gamepad
-wifi speed maxes at 65 mbps I'd like at least 150

Recommendations:
-Bluetooth gamepad of choice (lots of options)
-Air mouse with keyboard (again lots of options
-Smartlauncher (best launcher launcher I have found, it also automatically sorts your apps)
-Qloud (plays media from pc)
-Plex (plays media from pc)
-MX Player (video player)
-GKM touch (for playing touch screen games with a gamepad)
-Fist of Awesome (for guys with beards)

Not sure what's going with Tronsmart, and geekbuying should stop selling them as advertised. The USED to be rk3188, now (at least since December 2013, they're rk3188T - Throttled (down to 1.2 or 1.4 Ghz -- your mileage may vary)

Frusturating to have to go through several of these sticks looking for one which is actually what it is advertised to be. Can these manufactures be honest and say when they switch up the internals -- RK3188 is not RK3188T -- it's like order a core I5 laptop and getting a core I3 -- not right.
