Customer Questions & Answers

The next time I tried to use it, it started freezing every 5 minutes or so (btw, it makes a horrible sound when this happens).
Mitchell Kantar
The instructions that came with it are in English, but didn't find them very user friendly and the Q & A section at the back doesn't list the questions.
Ryan Overson
Another thing it does is cast any video on your phone to your TV not just Netflix, YouTube or other proprietary agreed upon with Chromecast.

I travel a lot and carry a Seagate Wireless Plus portable Wifi/DNLA 1 TB harddrive (which I love) with all my movies on it. I was looking for an alternative to MHL to get movies from my harddrive to my Samsung S3 to the TV screen. MHL works fine to mirror the screen but can be a pain to hook up and the phone ends up right next to the TV which means no remote.

I was hoping the Tronsmart would be better and in some ways it is. I was able to get everything (EZCast, Miracast, and DNLA) working and it does the job. (Update: The devices I have tested it with are the Samsung Galaxy S3 Phone and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8") It is particularly nice that you can keep your phone in your hand instead of having it hardwired to the TV. I actually think it is a very cool device. I will probably leave this one in my bag of travel gadgets and buy another one to leave hooked to my home TV because it does have some nice functionality.

Unfortunately, the Tronsmart always seems to require some configuring through the EZ Cast App to get stuff working. It is a little easier to physically hook up the Tronsmart then it is to hook up MHL (which can be finicky). But once MHL is hooked up it works instantly and flawlessly whereas with the Tronsmart you need to do some software stuff and not all of it is easy or intuitive to figure out. It takes slightly longer to get it working then MHL. I made myself a cheat sheet so I don't have to remember how to get it running between uses. I have copied it below in case it helps somebody. Update: As I have become more familiar with this device, I find that I can get through the configuration steps to put it in its various modes very quickly.

The documentation is laughable.

I have an HDX 8.9 which replaced a 7" HD recently. The only thing I missed was the HDMI output on the HD, as I used it to connect to hotel room TV's when traveling. I also used it frequently to connect to my home TV to watch amazon prime movies etc. I needed a way to replace this function on the HDX.

I have a Chromecast which works well with my android phone, but has very limited utility on the HDX (it won't display mirror, nor can you cast amazon prime videos with it) The Netgear PTV-3000 was what I figured I would have to go with, but the price and the setup issues reported caused me to look around for alternatives. I am happy to report I found a great solution.

The Tronsmart T-1000 is about the same price (less actually) that the Chromecast device and 1/2 the price of the Netgear. The install is straight forward, very similar to the steps used to get a Chromecast up and running. The manual that comes with the device is a bit confusing, but there is a great walkthrough at [...].

On my home wireless network there was no noticeable lag on games, and no lip sync issues on prime video, including 720p and 1080p content. I was very surprised how fast the device processed HD video. The latest update included compression on the wifi stream so that is probably the reason for the speed. I didn't see any major video artifacts introduced due to the compression, but it would be nice if the amount of compression was adjustable in the software. My guess is 720P would need a lower compression ratio than the current version of the firmware provides. Updates are OTA for both the application and the device firmware. This is a one click update within the EZ-Cast app, but be sure to use the update feature in the setup utility to be sure you have the latest version of the firmware.

I bought the Tronsmart T1000 on a whim. I've owned plenty of android sticks, and while they are great, I wanted a miracast receiver.
I wasn't expecting all the great features that come with this little stick. I also was prepared for bad performance, but was surprised.
It works amazing!

I get no buffering when casting videos or playing from my DLNA server. The wifi is plenty speedy. I even connect my laptop to the Tronsmart for internet while my phone is casting a video to it.

I'll be ordering a couple for some of my android obsessed friends.

This is the way casting from your phone should work, not the crippled convoluted 3rd party proprietary service locked way Chromecast does it. Unlike other reviews I have been reading before I purchased this, this unit performs really well. The manual is terrible, small print, almost unreadable, but you won't need it. A few seconds after connecting it to your HDMI port on your TV, it will display a fairly straightforward menu with instructions and diagrams. If you are doing just video, it's much better to use the EZCast movie player App (only displays playing progress shuttle control), streaming this way won't suck battery by displaying both on your phone and casting at the same time, the way EZMirror does. I could watch about an hour of HD video off less than 10% of my phone's battery.

-Pros
-Play local files, movies, documents, photos, music, etc. from your phone.
-Play cloud media
-There is no lag between video/audio syncing. Sounds and looks right.
-When shuttle-seeking in a video, it provides a buffer progress bar to let you know it's spooling video to feed to your TV.
-Playing a regular HD video is almost perfect on a Note3 phone and Note8 tablet. I will soon test this with some other devices I have lying around.
-You can even cast the camera from your phone to your TV, though as you might imagine, depending on your camera resolution, it will be a little jerky.
-DLNA works without any fuss. Though I haven't tried anything crazy (yet). I'll have to try doing some device to device casting next week.
-Works on very widely adopted standards and specs for interoperability.
