Editorial Reviews

Shelley Long discovers that when the going gets tough, the tough go camping in Troop Beverly Hills,a comedy about lifestyles of the rich and outrageous. Flamboyantly wealthy Phyllis Nefler (Long) has everything money can buy - a drop-dead Beverly Hills mansion, a classic Rolls, furs, jewelry and designer gowns. The one thing she doesn't have is her husband Freddy (Craig T. Nelson), who's leavingher for good. Maybe. Determined to prove she's still the creative, energetic woman Freddy once loved, Phyllis throws luxury to the wind and becomes leader of her daughter's Wilderness Girls troop. But how much can this chic cookie take before she crumbles? Is saving her marriage really worth trading Gucci bags for sleeping bags - not to mention actually touching bugs? Featuring cameos by Robin Leach, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Pia Zadora, Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Cheech Marin. Shelley Long blazes new comic trails in this hilarious trial-by-campfire that leaves the wild

A great laugh, a very well made movie with a very good ending.

I like this movie a lot, because it shows that even if everyone seems to be against you, you can still do what you want to do.

I remember watching this movie as a girl, and I loved it then...still love it now.

This was one of those fabulous 80's movies that Shelley Long made after her surprising "Cheers" departure. As a kid growing up, I loved this movie because it was so funny. My brother and I would watch it all the time, it got to a point where we memorized most of the lines (...blue-light special, isle thirteen...cookies...)

"Troop Beverly Hills" is a the story of a Beverly Hills homemaker (who's going through a divorce) that attempts to lead her daughter's wilderness girl troop. Phyllis Nefler (played by "Cheers" star Shelley Long) leads this group of spoiled Beverly Hills princesses.

Along their journey, they learn how to be "real wilderness girls" in a non conventional way while fighting the evils of Vesta Plendor (played by the very funny Betty Thomas.) Vesta will stop at nothing to prove Phyllis and her troop are nothing more than a group of pampered Beverly Hills brats.

Audra Lindley (Mrs. Roper from "Three's Company") also has a small part in this movie as Francis Temple, the good-natured wilderness girl official. Ironically, Tori Spelling (of 90210 fame) also has a small part belittling the girls from Beverly Hills!

If you're looking for classic 80's movies that are slightly off the beaten path, that everyone will love, I also recommend: Three for the Road, Who's That Girl?, Splash,

Although I did not get to see this movie until I was about 13 (I'm 18 now), I have to say that this is an absolutely hilarious movie! How can you not love seeing these spoiled Beverly Hills girls doing what they consider "roughing it" by sleeping at the Beverly Hills hotel, or making a dress-rack backpack for the craft fair? In the end though, they show that money may buy you the world, but it's true spirit that wins the race. A funny movie, with an excellent message. Buy it, watch it, you won't be disappointed!

One of my favourite "pick-me-up" films, TROOP BEVERLY HILLS is a hilarious romp filled with big belly laughs!
Shelley Long (one really under-appreciated actress) plays Phyllis Nefler, a spoiled socialite whose marriage is on the rocks. She agrees to take the helm of her daughter's wilderness girl troop, to engage in some long-overdue bonding.
Along the way, she encounters the bitchy wilderness girl leader Velda Plendor (played perfectly by Betty Thomas) and the mousy little Annie (played by Mary Gross). The "ordeal" also reunites her with her husband (Craig T. Nelson), and the maid Rossario (Shelly Morrison) could not be happier!
A truly star-studded film, boasting cameos by Dr. Joyce Brothers, Pia Zadora, Annette Funicello, Frankie Avalon, Pee-Wee Herman, and many more!

I have seen this movie so many times, I never get sick of it. Shelly Long is always great. It is not the deepest movie you will ever see but you do feel good after you watch it.

Great story, especially for my daughters that are now girl scouts! BUT there are curse words throughout the whole movie! No F-bombs, mostly sh-- and d-m. I don't remember if the h-word is there or not. But it's not like my kids don't hear those words at school! Just be aware that if you don't want your kids to hear curse words, then don't watch this. Oh and Shelly Long smokes a lot, and the girls in the troop tell her she shouldn't smoke lol. But the story is great and the movie is fun, if not for the curse words I would have given it 5 stars!!!

This was my daughter's favourite movie that she had recorded on VHS from the TV many years ago. The quality was very poor and full of commercials. She is now away at university and was still watching it....so I surprised her for her birthday. She loved it and I would say that it was her favourite birthday present......she is 23 yrs. old. Too funny!

I used to rent this movie over and over when I was a girl. It actually inspired me to join girl scouts, and I stay for a few years even though it wasn't as fun as the movie. :) I would love my daughter to see this when she's older, and the humor still stands up today. Any adults looking for an 80's commedy she hasn't seen, this would be a great choice because it's not just for kids!
