4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise
For the money, this was a pleasant surprise. It has a great sound. I shared it with a couple of celtic musicians who commented on the great sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars meh
The drum I received is not as vintage or ethnic looking as the photograph makes it appear.

Mine is white with nails holding the head on. There are no designs or patterns.

One of the 4 braces to hold the drum was missing a nail which made the whole construction loose. I was able to fix it though.

Sound quality is average, not 'boomy'...

First the sound is great. Deep and mellow. But tight enough for rapid cadence. Very little ring. Good tight thump. The workmanship in the frame is only so-so but you will forget about fit and finish when you hear the rumble. Be careful and keep the head dry and it should last quite a while. The goat skin head isn't as durable as synthetic but it sounds much better. Certainly worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the price, it is a great Bodhran, December 16, 2008

For the price, it is a great Bodhran (Boy, Irish is certainly not a phonetic language). If you are playing a lot of public sessions, this in not the one for you. You would want a tunable one. But it has a nice feel, good voice (or sound). It also comes with a tipper (beater) with a comfortable and useful "ridge" that is off center. For beginners this is helpful. When professional Bodhrans go from $300 - $3,000, this is a great buy.

I was surprised at the size of this Bodhran and how well it is made. The cost is affordable and the product was here in days. I am very pleased.

Got this for my son. His bodhran teacher was very impressed with the sound and quality, given the relatively low price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second purchase of a Bodhran from this Seller, September 25, 2010

I was so pleased with the quality of the 14 inch fixed Trophy Bodhran that I purchased an 18 inch drum just for the skin. I took the 18 inch skin and fitted it to a 14 inch tunable bodhran. It sounds better than I could have imagined. Another great surprise was found after soaking the skin before fixing it to the drum. The spots from the goats skin showed on the drumhead after soaking. Perfect skin that looks and sounds much more expensive. It's super thin and very responsive. My girlfriend is an artist. I gave her the frame of the drum for her use. Also, and even more importantly, another transaction with a fast and efficient seller.
Thanks again. I'll be back for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice sound and easy to play, July 26, 2010

This drum (made in Pakistan not in Éirin) has a nice sound and I found it easy to play. The one draw back is that the cross bars are a little too close to the head and my arm is slightly restricted. An additional half inch deeper shell would be nice and the cross bars about half an inch farther from the head would be great! Over all I am greatly pleased with my purchase. A great price, too!!!
I have to say that I AM PLEASED and will reconmend this to others!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Bodhran for Learning, October 7, 2009

I bought this bodhran as a gift for my husband. He loves it and the sound is amazing. His one complaint is that the tipper is a bit small for him, but since they sell lots of tippers this isn't too big of a problem. I was disappointed that his didn't come with the trim and instead has the nails showing. The nails look good with the bodhran so I don't think my husband cares that there isn't any trim. Overall I'd say that this is a great bodhran for learning. It's cheap enough that if he doesn't like it we haven't waisted a lot of money and if he likes it we haven't invested so much money that we'll feel guilty when he upgrades to a tunable drum.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for a starter drum, October 23, 2011

I had never played a Bodhran before so I didn't want to spend alot of money , But if you can afford it buy a good drum buy a real drum maker and buy a tune able one. This one has a high pitch to it and comes with a rough skin. I had to sand the the drum and tape it as well and now it sounds alot better. I will be buying alot better one before to long.
