This review is from: Trophy for Eagles (Hardcover)
In Trophy for Eagles Walter J. Boyne has written a fast paced and accurate account of the Golden Age of Aviation. This historical fiction novel is filled with the larger than life people of the era and told through the eyes of Boyne's fictional characters.

The main character, Frank Bandfield, is an all American man of the day with whom the reader can easily empathize. Depression ear economics can't stop this determined man as he pushes the limits of technology to fly faster, further and higher than ever. Former German fighter pilot Bruno Hafner is in American to steal that technology for the Luftwaffe as it rebuild from the ashes of the First World War. Banfied and Hafner clash repeatedly as each struggles for the upper hand.

Boyne's writing is full of fascinating aviation details that only a master pilot can bring to the page. His characters are vivid and the settings remarkable. Once you've finished Trophy for Eagles be sure to read the sequel, Eagles at War. Eagles At War Flying Boats & Spies China Clipper, a Nick Grant Adventure

4.0 out of 5 stars Historically interesting book on early flying., December 3, 1998

This review is from: Trophy for Eagles (Mass Market Paperback)
Mr. Boyne has written a tight, fast paced flying novel with an historic integration that adds immeasurably to its believability. The action is nonstop and yet characterization is strong with a multitude of fictional and historical characters. I recommend this novel to anyone who likes action, avaition and a complex interplay between human beings. The only minor complaint I have is with the abruptness with which he completes several eposodes and situations.

In short, its a good read.
